We have ourselves a basketball game in the SEC but wouldn’t this be a little more fun if we were talking about football? The Tide and Ole Miss would probably give us a more entertaining football game than what we might see at the Pavilion tonight, but let’s see if we can make it more interesting with a winning bet.
Neither program has really accomplished much since SEC play started as they are both under .500 in conference play. The Tide has lost 3 of their last 4 games which brings them down to 4 – 6 in the SEC standings but the 14 – 9 overall record is still a little respectable.
Ole Miss had won 2 straight games going into their bout with Florida last time out, but an overtime loss to the Gators left the Rebels at 3 – 7 in the SEC and 12 – 11 overall for the season. Another loss for the home team would push them back even on the year but the Rebels hope to improve on their 10 – 4 record at the Pavilion.
Alabama Crimson Tide
The line setters are pointing to an Alabama win and the -5.5 opening line might come as a little surprise to some. Alabama has lost their last two games but losing to Auburn and Kentucky isn’t exactly shameful. It isn’t all bad, however, as the Tide took down Baylor in the Big 12 / SEC challenge before the two recent losses in conference play.
The loss to Auburn was simply ugly and the 100 – 81 final on Auburn’s home court gave Tigers fans all the joy in the world taking out Alabama. I think we’re all aware of the fantastic season Auburn is having this year with only 1 loss to show all year.
Alabama is all the way back in the 9th spot of the SEC standings entering this game and the road has been a difficult place to find wins for this team. The Tide are 1 – 5 away from home in true road games and the Over is 15 – 8 because this defense is simply a mess.
The Tide are allowing 75.6 PPG and that will leave them back at 326th in the nation and if a defensive rebound is what you’re after? Yeah, look somewhere else because Alabama is ranked 295th in the country on the defensive glass.
Oddly, the Tide are ranked 17th in the land putting up 80.2 PPG but yet they do none of their damage behind the 3-point line. Alabama ranks 326th hooting 30.5% from behind the arc and did you see the absolute disaster against Kentucky last time out? How does 3 for 30 sound to you? Please, do us all a favor and stop shooting 3-point shots if you wear an Alabama jersey! Why? BECAUSE YOU ALL SUCK!! (Sugarcoat this!)
Jaden Shackleford was his own mess last time out with only 6 points against Kentucky in the 66 – 55 loss to the Cats. This is the guy this team relies on to perform every night so another outing like that from the team’s leading scorer will likely leave them with another L. Shackleford was 2 for 11 from the floor and 0 for 7 from behind the 3-point line for a dude that averages 17 PPG.
Mississippi Rebels
So, as bad as Alabama is let’s talk about Ole Miss. You know that watching Georgia basketball is kind of like stepping in shit and licking your shoes, right? Ole Miss isn’t that far ahead of Georgia in the SEC standings and there really is no chance that either of these two programs will be in a post-season tournament.
The Ole Miss offense is sitting in about 250th in every major category as you peruse the rankings, but this team is actually not playing terribly of late. Ole Miss tool the first meeting with Florida and then took out LSU and Kansas State before the loss to the Gators this past Saturday. Colin Castleton had just returned to the Florida line up and he came up big with 17 points to contribute to the Ole Miss defeat.
Tye Fagan ended up being the Rebels leading scorer against Florida and that is some rare stuff. Fagan barely finds 7 points a night but yet he came away with 15 points to led the team against the Gators. Jarkel Joiner leads the Rebels with his 13 PPG and he played 40 minutes off the bench in the loss finding only 7 points himself.
As is the case with hundreds of programs this year, depth is a major issue for Ole Miss outside of what Joiner provides, obviously. Joiner has only played 2 games since December 21 and he is just getting back to game shape again. Coach Davis is bringing him off the bench apparently, but he played 40 minutes against Florida out of the 45 minutes played with overtime.
Joiner leads the squad in scoring, but David Ruffin will be absent tonight taking the Reb’s second-leading scorer off the court for this game. The knee injury has ended Ruffin’s season early and that will test this team’s depth even more than it already has all season long.
CBB Betting Trends:
- Over is 7-0 in Crimson Tide last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- Over is 7-1 in Crimson Tide’s last 8 road games.
- Over is 13-5 in Crimson Tide last 18 overall.
- Crimson Tide are 3-12-1 ATS in their last 16 games overall.

Wait, what? Who the fuck set this line at 143? The line setters obviously got all sort of drunk before he set this total and I am going to make them pay for it. 69 – 65 will be as good as it gets and that leaves us plenty of room on this under!
