Friday, December 20th, the Washington Wizards face the Toronto Raptors in the clubs first meeting of the season.
Last season, the teams played four times with Toronto sweeping the series. The Raptors hold the all-time record having bested the Wizards in 52 of their 89 matches
Washington Wizards
The Wizards have lost five of their last six games after falling to the Bulls. The loss was made all the more difficult given the Wizards held a lead of 18 points in the fourth quarter. The game went into overtime where the Bulls won 110-109.

In the loss to the Bulls, Bradley Beal struggled with his shot all night and finished with a horrific 4-of-19 from the floor and 1-of-9 from the perimeter. Despite the poor shooting efficiency Beal amassed 22 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Davis Bertans got the tap to start and delivered with a team-high 26 points. Isaiah Thomas registered 16 points and Troy Brown Jr. chipped in 10 points as the only other double-figure scorers.
On the season the Wizards team leaders are Bradley Beal with 27.6 points and 7.0 assists, Rui Hachimura 5.8 rebounds, Thomas Bryant 54.9% field goal percentage, Troy Brown Jr. 1.4 steals and Davis Bertans tops the blocks (0.7) category.
Rui Hachimura didn’t play in the Bulls game and will miss the match with a groin contusion. Jordan McRae (finger) is out until month-end.
Moritz Wagner missed the last three games with a left ankle sprain, and he will not suit up against the Raptors on Friday. Likewise, Thomas Bryant (foot) won’t return to the rotation until late December.
CJ Miles (wrist ligament) and like John Wall (ruptured Achilles tendon) will miss the rest of the season.
Toronto Raptors
The defending champions haven’t been fortunate when it comes to health this season. The worst part is with each returnee another player goes down as was the case Fred VanVleet getting injured just as Kyle Lowry returned. But to say things a out of control might be an understatement as the Raptors left Detroit with three starters injured.
The long absences of Serge Ibaka and Lowry equated to rust and their struggles to reintegrate affected the team’s overall offensive rhythm. Consequently, the Raptors lost four of five games.
In the last few games, both looked like their pre-injury selves which were evidenced by Lowry’s triple-double of 20 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Ibaka produced a double-double of 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Detroit. Pascal Siakam (26) and OG Anunoby (19) were the other double-figure contributors.
The three players who were arguably playing the most consistent offense got injured with Pascal Siakam suffering a stretched groin, Marc Gasol strained his hamstring and Norman Powell dislocated his shoulder (the same injury kept him out 21 games last season).
VanVleet’s knee contusion kept him out of the last five games but he’s been upgraded to questionable for Friday. Powell is still getting assessed but it’s safe to assume he’ll miss significant time.
Siakam (groin), Gasol (hamstring), Powell (shoulder) are all out indefinitely while Stanely Johnson (groin) and Matt Thomas (broken finger) remain out.
