Friday, January 7th, finds the Washington Wizards facing the Chicago Bulls playing for the second time this season. They opened their regular-season series with the Bulls winning 120-119 on New Years Day. The teams will play once more in Washington on March 29th.
The Bulls last played on Monday in a 102-98 winning effort versus the Magic while the Wizards played Wednesday losing 111-114 to the Rockets.
Last season, the teams played on three occasions with the Bulls taking two of the three contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Wizards in 127 of their 234 matches.
Washington Wizards
Wes Unseld’s post-game interview cited his team’s effort as lackadaisical seemingly implying they expected to beat Houston.
With eight losses in their last 12 matches and having dropped to the ninth seed this team can’t afford to have visions of grandeur about their club. Not when the East is so jam-packed with four games separating the fifth through 12th seeded teams.
Bradley Beal led the way for his club with 27 points, five rebounds, five assists, a steal, and a block although his output got cut short when he fouled out with over nine minutes left in the match.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope offered 26 points connecting on five of nine 3-pointers along with six rebounds while Kyle Kuzma scored 24 but missed all eight 3-point attempts but did grab nine rebounds.
Raul Neto chipped in 14 points in his first game back from protocols. Six other Wizards are still working their way back from quarantine with Spencer Dinwiddie and Aaron Holiday probable for Friday.
Montrezl Harrell is questionable and the trio of Rui Hachimura, Brad Wanamaker, and Anthony Gill were all downgraded to out.
Davis Bertans (foot) was downgraded to out while Thomas Bryant (knee) is out indefinitely
Chicago Bulls
The Bulls arrive riding an eight-game win streak and winners of 10 of their last 12 matches. An impressive performance given how decimated Chicago got hit by COVID.
Much of the credit belongs to DeMar DeRozan who was rewarded by fans with the most Eastern Conference votes for a guard in the first round of All-Star ballot returns.
Chicago’s run of success has propelled them to the top of the East 1.5 games ahead of the Nets and 2.5 over the Bucks who are currently dealing with an outbreak of COVID themselves.
They also got three days of rest between the win versus the Magic on Monday so arrive well-rested. The Bulls potential All-Star backcourt led the way as DeRozan led with 29 points and LaVine with 27 points. Nikola Vucevic registered a 17 point, 17 rebound double-double.
Tony Bradley (quarantine) and Marko Simonovic (quarantine) were upgraded to probable. Alex Caruso (foot), Tyler Cook (ankle), and Javonte Green (groin) are out indefinitely while Patrick Williams (thumb) is lost for the season.

Free Washington Wizards vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction
Although the Wizards have played with more aggression versus the elite teams those three days of rest for the Bulls will have them recharged and ready to extend the win streak to nine in a row although the point spread feels a bit rich.
