Wednesday, December 21st, the Toronto Raptors and New York Knicks play in the first of four scheduled meetings this season. All three of the next meetings occur in January with New York hosting on the 16th and Toronto hosting on the 6th and 22nd.
The Raptors last played Monday losing another heartbreaker 101-104 in overtime to the 76ers while the Knicks are completing a back-to-back set having pounded the Warriors 132-94 on Tuesday.
Last season, the teams played four times with the Raptors winning three of the four contests. The Raptors hold the all-time record having bested the Knicks in 58 of their 102 matches.

Toronto Raptors
Two clubs headed in opposite directions with rumors of locker room turmoil and upcoming trades rampant in reference to the Raptors while the media is buzzing about adding depth to the grooving Knicks team.
Here’s the thing – – while Masai Ujiri may make a move don’t expect him to trade OG Anunoby just because the national media are saying every team wants him.
Of course, they do — which is why Ujiri won’t want to trade him. They drafted him, developed him, and recognize they have the perfect 3 and D player. So regardless of how badly they’re struggling, he’s probably the next safest player aside from Scottie Barnes in Toronto.
That’s not to suggest Toronto won’t make a trade it’s just more likely to be Gary Trent Jr., smaller assets, and if any of the core is moved VanVleet is most likely given his contract status.
On offense, the Raptors score 111.1 points per game (22nd) shooting 44.9% from the field (28th) and 32.4% from deep (29th). Defensively, the Raptors allow 111.1 opponent points per game ranking (8th) while they shoot 48.7% (28th) from the field and 35.7%
Gary Trent Jr. (quad) is questionable. Precious Achiuwa (ankle) and Otto Porter Jr. (toe dislocation) are out until the New Year.
New York Knicks
The winning streak has hit eight following the beatdown of the Dubs. Immanuel Quickley led the way scoring 22 points while Julius Randle registered a double-double of 15 points and 12 rebounds.
Jalen Brunson (21), Quentin Grimes (19), RJ Barrett (18), and Miles McBride (10) all reached double digits.
Randle is shooting 46.1 percent from the field on 16.3 attempts, 33.7 percent from the perimeter on 7.0 attempts, and 79.9 percent from the stripe on 6.1 attempts.
Offensively, the Knicks score 114.7 points per game (12th). New York shoots 45.5% from the field ranking 25th and 33.2% from the perimeter ranking 25th.
Defensively, the Knicks allow opponents to score 111.6 points per game (11th). New York allows their opponents to shoot 45.1% from the field and 33.9% from the perimeter ranking third and fifth respectively.
Obi Toppin (non-displaced fibula fracture) is out.

Recognizing the Knicks played Tuesday, it’s still very odd they are only favored by a single point given the Raptors’ struggles, particularly on the road. THAT more than anything speaks to the fact everyone recognizes Toronto has dealt with copious injuries and isn’t nearly as bad as their record says.
Toronto went on a huge run to end last season and could replicate that but the issue this season is health – they won’t get Achiuwa or Porter Jr back until the New Year.
Plus they have to weather this current schedule stint that features a slew of winning cubs (eight of next nine – and Pacers).
While I want to believe the Raptors will do what they’ve typically done the last several seasons (bounce back after a loss) I can’t invest in them until they break out of this losing streak. Besides that point spread is just far too low not to jump on.
