Wednesday, January 5th. the Toronto Raptors play the Milwaukee Bucks for the second time this season. Toronto won the initial meeting on December 2nd, (97-93) and the teams will play one final time in Milwaukee on January 15th.
The Raptors are playing a back-to-back set having pummeled the Spurs 129-104 on Tuesday while the Bucks played Monday and in a stunner lost 106-115 to the Pistons.
Toronto Raptors
Not a great time for the Raptors to face the Bucks — right after they coughed up a winnable game to the Pistons. Plus Milwaukee is already motivated to avenge the earlier loss to Toronto when Giannis Antetokounmpo was out injured.
On the positive side of the equation, Nick Nurse finally has the majority of his team (and most importantly his core) back healthy for the first time this season.
That’s equated to a three-game win streak and the Raptors finally displaying why they could be more of a factor in the East than the first two and half months of the season showed.
As expected the starting frontcourt trio of Pascal Siakam, Scottie Barnes, and OG Anunoby is making opposing players’ lives miserable with their length and athleticism on defense.
But the true revelation is how much Siakam and Barnes are handling the ball and initiating the offense. It equated to a season-high 30 assists for the Raptors with Barnes dishing eight dimes (career-high) and the starting unit accounting for 26 of the 30 assists.
Toronto’s bench got thinner with news Svi Mykhailiuk and Yuta Watanabe entered protocols.
Milwaukee Bucks
It’s the dog days of winter when teams are fatigued and it can lead to taking a lower-tier team for granted. This year, in particular, is more trying because of the truncated offseason and ongoing impact of the pandemic.
In some ways, teams who’ve been hit hard by COVID got some extra downtime to reset both physically and emotionally but for squads like the Bucks who made deep playoff runs (or in their case won the title) they are pining for the All-Star break and “scheduled vacation time.”
Milwaukee isn’t a club that takes teams for granted, Giannis is far too competitive for that plus the big 3 were all active Monday. Detroit led virtually the whole night so it might be the simple math of the 5-5-5-5 rule.
That’s a common adage that refers to something that typically happens to every club each season…
- win five games that should’ve been losses
- lose five games that should’ve been wins
- get blown out in five games
- blow out opponents in five games
If you track this phenomenon it’s a pretty accurate statement and that’s where I’m dropping this loss.
Five Bucks are in protocols including Semi Ojeleye, Thanasis Antetokounmpo, and Jordan Nwora who are questionable for Wednesday while Pat Connaughton and Grayson Allen are ruled out. Donte DiVincenzo (ankle) is out indefinitely as is Brook Lopez (back).
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Raptors are 7-3 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The Raptors are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 matches against the Bucks
- The over/under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head matches
Free Toronto Raptors vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction
Both clubs have been on a winning tangent each winning six of their last nine games. Milwaukee has the rest advantage while Toronto will be missing key bench contributors. Although Nurse was able to limit his starters minutes fatigue likely plays a factor.
I like Toronto to keep it closer than the 8.5 point spread but for the Bucks to get the win.
