As can be seen, Tuesday, January 17th finds the Toronto Raptors playing the Milwaukee Bucks in the second of four scheduled matches this season. Also, Milwaukee will host again on March 19th while the clubs will close out the series back in Toronto on April 9th.
Altogether, the Bucks took the initial January 4th meeting winning 104-101 in overtime in what was one of the most bizarre games of the year.
As a result, Both teams are playing the second game of a back-to-back set having played the front side Monday with the Raptors beating the Knicks 123-121 in overtime while the shorthanded Bucks rallied to overcome a double-digit deficit and beat the Pacers 132-119.
On the other hand, last season, the teams played three times with the Raptors sweeping the series. So far, the Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 55 of their 99 matches
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Monday, evening, January 16th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Tuesday, January 17th.
Toronto Raptors
At this point, with each passing game the debates North of the border about whether the Raptors should fully commit to the tank versus selectively shop certain assets are re-ignited.
One player adding to the fodder is fan favorite Fred VanVleet as his antics off the court and ineffectiveness on it has fans on both sides of the argument.
The pro side cites injury (his back primarily) as the reason for FVV’s poor shooting (37.3FG% | 32.5% from deep). On the negative side, the anti-FVV side can point to last year’s post-All-Star Game stats (34.3FG% | 29.1% from deep) which prove this is a longer-term issue.
In the final analysis, Monday offered up one of the handful of his better performances this season 33 points, five rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Stats
On offense, the Raptors score 112.0 points per game (24th) shooting 44.7% from the field (29th) and 32.8% from deep (30th). Defensively, the Raptors allow 111.7 opponent points per game ranking (ninth) while shooting 48.7% (27th) from the field and 36.5% (22nd).
Additionally, Otto Porter Jr. had season-ending toe surgery.
Milwaukee Bucks
Unquestionably, Monday the Bucks were clicking, but the baseball set in Miami offered confirmation of just how valuable Giannis Antetokounmpo is to the Bucks. So far, in those two matches Milwaukee scored 102 and 95 points.
On the whole, the MLK game also marked the third consecutive match Giannis sat resting his sore knee.
Stats
As can be seen, opponents score the sixth-fewest points with the Bucks allowing 111.1 per game limiting opponents to 45.4% from the field and 34.9% from deep ranking fourth and ninth respectively.
As a result, offensively, the Bucks score 112.2 points per game (21st), while shooting 45.4% from the field and 35.2% from the perimeter ranking 26th and 18th in the latter two categories
Additionally, Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) and Joe Ingles (rest) are questionable. Serge Ibaka (personal) and Khris Middleton are out.

Free Toronto Raptors vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
The last time these teams met it was one of the oddest games played to this point in the entire campaign. The teams combined to shoot 7 of 47 in the first quarter with 10 turnovers.
On one hand, Milwaukee grabbed a 21-point lead and was up 18 at 3:10 of the final frame, but Toronto inexplicably went on a scoring rampage culminating with a Gary Trent Jr. 3-point buzzer-beater with 1.1 seconds left to force overtime.
Of course, Toronto couldn’t keep the momentum as the Bucks won behind Antetokounmpo’s quadruple-double (that included 12 turnovers). The meetings between these clubs are often an adventure but this match is unlikely to be as bizarre as the January 4th outing.
Additionally, Miami and Toronto are known as two of the more physical teams, so I wonder if Giannis will elect to sit once more to avoid that extra banging inside.
All in all, his presence makes all the difference on who wins but either way, I’m taking the points.
