Friday, January 27th, finds the Toronto Raptors playing the Golden State Warriors for the second and final time this season. The Warriors won the initial meeting 126-110 on December 18th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Raptors pummeling the Kings 113-95 while the Warriors outlasted the Grizzlies 122-120.
Last season, the squads played twice with both teams winning at home. The Warriors hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 31 of their 51 matches.

Toronto Raptors
The Raptors remain one of the biggest enigmas in the association. Injuries derailed the team early and I maintain the loss of Otto Porter Jr. was a significant factor.
Precious Achiuwa 24 game absence also hurt as evidenced by the team’s recent improvement. Nick Nurse gradually increased his playing time through the last nine games with him registering double-digit scoring in eight of those outings.
Therefore, it’s no surprise the bench is playing better and the team’s defense is trending upward resulting in six wins in their last 10 games (two losses were by two points).
Prior to departing Toronto, Nick Nurse held a lengthy film session and the players had another closed-door meeting which seemed to pay immediate dividends given the defensive showcase they put on in Sac Town limiting the Kings to 95 points.
Sacramento was averaging a league-high 120.3 points and was 7-1 with the lone loss in the second game of a back-to-back (by two points).
That said, rumors are swirling OG Anunoby wants out although he denied similar reports at season start and tension exists on and off the hardwood with both Fred VanVleet and Gary Trent Jr. expected to opt out of their contracts and also linked to trade rumors.
Given the dysfunction and how some players seemingly put their personal situations (contracts) ahead of the team, Masai Ujiri may already have decided his course of action regardless of how the team performs on this road trip.
Stats
On offense, the Raptors score 112.6 points per game (24th) shooting 45.2% from the field (28th) and 33.4% from the perimeter (28th). Defensively, the Raptors allow 112.1 points (8th) with opponents shooting 48.7% from the field (27th) and 37.4% from deep (28th).
Dalano Banton (hip) is questionable while Porter Jr (toe) is shut down for the season.
Golden State Warriors
The rivalry between the Warriors and Grizzlies continues to grow with each meeting. It felt like Memphis was about to even up the season series but the absence of Steven Adams was palpable.
His rim protection and bone-jarring screens were missed but by far Adams 5.1 league-leading offensive rebounds probably cost Memphis the game as the much smaller Warriors won the rebounding battle!
And it still took a last-second play without their best player who was ejected for throwing his mouth guard. The latter occurred because a wide-open Steph was annoyed with Jordan Poole who ignored him calling for the ball electing instead to shoot (and miss) a contested shot.
The irony of the winning basket was Poole scored it off an inbound pass from Draymond Green — the same guy who feuded with him in preseason.
Stats
Golden State averages 117.7 points per game (3rd) while shooting 47.2% from the field (18th) and 37.8% from deep (5th). Warriors opponents score 118.0 points (27th) shooting 46.9% from the field (11th) and 36.2% from deep (19th).
Andrew Wiggins (illness) is questionable while Andre Iguodala (hip) is out.
