Wednesday, December 18th finds Eastern Conference rivals the Toronto Raptors and. Detroit Pistons in their second meeting this season. The Toronto Raptors won the first game on October 30th with a score of 125-113.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Pistons taking two of the three games in the series. The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 54 of their 90 matches

Ironically the return of Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka ended up hurting the Raptors instead of helping, at least initially. The club had developed a rhythm and chemistry so the duo’s return shook up the rotation and subsequently affected the offense.

That led to four losses in five games and three consecutive home losses during which Fred VanVleet got injured.
The schedule gods paid the Raptors a favor however as a visit to Brooklyn and date with the Cavaliers served as the perfect fodder to sort out their stilted offense, struggles from the perimeter and overall timing and flow.
While the team still needs VanVleet to be at their best they are seemingly back on track with the club more closely resembling themselves in those matches.

Last season three teams swept the season series versus Toronto. In the West the Rockets and Nuggets took both games while the Pistons were the only Eastern Conference team to accomplish that feat taking all three games.
Mind you Dwane Casey had extra inspiration given the then Coach of the Year was fired at the end of the previous season by Toronto. Since the Raptors took the opening game this season they can’t repeat the feat although things seem much less caustic now.
Detroit had strung together their best group of games of the season winning five of seven prior to the loss to the Washington Wizards however the Pistons were without Andre Drummond (eye) and Blake Griffin (knee). Both big men are listed as probable for Wednesday.
In the loss Derrick Rose and Markieff Morris led the scoring with 22 points each. Bruce Brown (20), Luke Kennard (14), Christian Wood (12) and Tony Snell (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
On the season Drummond is averaging a double-double of 17.7 points and 16.6 rebounds which tops both categories on the team. In fact Drummond also tops field goal percentage (54.6 percent), steals (1.7) and blocks (1.8). The only category he doesn’t lead is assist which Derrick Rose tops (6.1).
Khyri Thomas won’t be back until late December while he heals from surgery to repair his fifth metatarsal bone in his foot. Reggie Jackson is expected back early in the New Year as he allows a stress reaction in his lumbar spine to heal.
