Raptors vs. Cavaliers Gameday
Game one is in the books, and now the teams make adjustments. The match was fairly equal through the first half, but the Raptors’ youngsters showed their inexperience to close the second quarter, and how they came out of the locker room after the half. During those eight minutes, the Cavaliers outscored the Raptors 27 to nine.
Cleveland took full advantage of the Raptors’ lapse in focus, pulling away to build an insurmountable lead and going on to collect a 126-113 victory.
Five Cavaliers scored in double figures, led by James Harden, who collected a double-double of 22 points and 10 assists. Doonvan Mitchell was the high scorer for the match with 32 points on 11 of 20 and four of seven from deep.
Max Strus came off the bench to score 24 points, almost single-handedly beating the Raptors reserves, who scored 30 in total.
RJ Barrett was the top Raptors scorer with 24 points, while Scottie Barnes offered 21 points and seven assists.

Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers Odds & Last 5
Head-to-head this season, the Raptors swept the Cavaliers 3-0, but learned quickly in Game 1 that the Cavs are a very different team with James Harden in the lineup.
The clubs have a playoff history, having faced each other three times in prior seasons, with the Cavaliers dominating with two sweeps and a 4-2 series win. They last played in the 2018 season when LeBron James and Co. took them out, and LBJ famously gave praise to the Scotiabank crowd after the series win.
Coming into the playoffs, the Raptors were 3-2 through their last five matches, while the Cavs arrived on a hot streak, having won five of their last six contests.
Cleveland is favored by 8.5 points while the over/under is 224.5 points.

Toronto Raptors vs. Cleveland Cavaliers bottom line:
Game 2 offers an opportunity for the losing team to make adjustments, and the Raptors have plenty to make. Dealing with the Cavaliers’ backcourt is at the forefront of that equation.
Not having Immanuel Quickley didn’t help the situation, but the Raptors need to make a decision on Harden specifically. They can’t let him excel at being a scorer AND the dime man, so they’ll have to scheme to make him less effective.
Furthermore, they need to go at him on the defensive side of the court. Too many times, he was allowed to rest on defense, and that can’t continue.

Raptors Cavaliers Free Pick: Raptors +8.5
Here is my Raptors Cavaliers free pick.
Cleveland outscored the Raptors 52-36 in the paint and held Toronto in check on the fast break. The Raptors are at their best when they move the ball, and while they had 29 assists, they took 10 fewer shots, which was the difference in the game.
Jakob Poeltl had a brutal game, frequently getting outplayed by Harden and his bigs in the pick-and-roll. He’ll need to be much better in Game 2. In fact, the rookie Collin Murray-Boyles had a better overall game than Poeltl. Perhaps Rajakovic will utilize the youngster more in Game 2.
The other decision the Raps coach will need to make is whether to stick with Jamal Shead or switch to JaKobe Walter and let Barnes handle the majority of the playmaking if Quickley can’t go again. Regardless of which direction they take, the ball (and players) need to move more plus the Raps need to push the pace.
The key for the Raptors is holding opponents under 120 points. When they do they win and when they don’t they lose. Game 1 only cemented that stat.
It’s a must-win scenario for the Raptors if they want to make it a series because falling to 2-0 would mean they would have to win four out of five, which seems highly unlikely.
All season, the Raptors have bounced back from lackluster efforts, so I’ll roll the dice on them again in this match and take the points.
