Wednesday, December 23rd finds the San Antonio Spurs and. Memphis Grizzlies playing their first game of the 2020-21 season.
Although both clubs participated in the Disney bubble neither were able to move into the playoffs and subsequently had all late summer and fall to use that as motivation to prepare for this season.
The Knicks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 73 wins in 99 meetings. Last season, the clubs played four times with each team taking two victories.
San Antonio Spurs
.After occupying the key position as the team to emulate in the NBA for more than two decades the Spurs missed the postseason for the first time in 22 years.
Now the question is whether they’ll begin a rebuild focusing on their youthful assets and try to land draft picks by shopping veterans DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, and LaMarcus Aldridge who are all in the last year of their contracts.
Derrick White (toe), Keldon Johnson (foot) , and Keita Bates-Diop (ankle) are all questionable.
Memphis Grizzlies
While the Grizzlies were last season’s Cinderalla team the pumpkin came early in the bubble as they failed to win the play-in tournament and land a playoff berth.
Regardless, this was the NBA League Pass must-watch game on most nights last season and if the Grizzlies continue to play as they did in the preseason they might garner that position yet again.
GM Zachary Kleiman made very few moves this offseason but in fairness, the team has so much young talent and performed so well last year it’s hard to knock them for running back that crew with a view to continuing their growth.
Kleiman did make sure to lock in De’Anthony Melton on every economical deal and while Justise Winslow came over last season he’s yet to play given a hip injury he suffered prior to the bubble seeding games.
Ja Morant was fire in the preseason and already looks as if he’s taken a huge step up the ladder.
