The San Antonio Spurs will head three hours east to Houston to face off with the Rockets in a Lone Star Showdown. Both teams are now above .500 on the season and will both be looking to grab a win to climb in the standings. These two clubs already faced twice this year in a back to back matchup in San Antonio on January 14th and 16th which were the first appearances without former superstar James Harden playing for Houston. The series was split with the the Rockets taking game one 109-105 and the Spurs bouncing back to take game two by a score of 103-91.
San Antonio Spurs
The San Antonio Spurs faced the Minnesota Timberwolves and walked away with a win by a score of 111-108 in their last game. DeMar DeRozan had a strong impact in this contest scoring 30 points (10-19 FG) along with 6 assists. Jakob Poeltl contributed nicely with 19 points (9-10 FG) as well as 8 rebounds.
San Antonio has 8 players averaging in double digit scoring on the year which is very impressive and is a testament to Gregg Popovich and his system. DeMar DeRozan is averaging 20.1 points and 6.6 assists which are both team bests as well as 5.0 rebounds, Dejounte Murray has played excellent this year as well averaging 14.6 points 7.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists, Keldon Johnson has played great for his second year adding 14.6 points and a team best 7.3 rebounds.
Houston Rockets
The wide expectation surrounding the future of Houston seemed to be negative after dealing their longtime franchise face and leader James Harden in early January. The reality has been quite the opposite has the new look Rockets have played themselves into an 8-4 record since the trade and surprising many. In that timeframe they have been the best team in the league defensively as they have played hard together as a unit rather than following the lead of Harden. John Wall has slowly returned to his former game after missing so much time due to injuries and has felt a personal imitative to be the new face of the team.
In their last game Thursday night Houston traveled to Memphis and won 115-103. They exerted another strong defensive effort as they have been known for since their blockbuster trade. The team had 5 players in double digit scoring and shot 19-45 from 3pt (42.2%) en route to the victory. John Wall led the way with 22 points and 8 assists and Christian Wood added 17 points and 7 rebounds but had to leave early due to an ankle injury.

Free San Antonio Spurs vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
These teams split their last matchups on a back to back in San Antonio but that was fresh off Houston trying to play their first games without Harden and having to adjust on the fly. Rockets are 7-3 since then and have been playing great team ball especially on the defensive end which was not something heard often before. I’ll lay the points with Houston at home.
