Monday, December 16th, finds Southwest Division rivals the San Antonio Spurs meeting up with the Houston Rockets for the second time in the 2019-20 season. In the first contest, the Spurs won in double overtime 135-133.
Last season, the Western rivals met four times with the Rockets taking three of the four contests. The Spurs hold the all-time record having bested the Rockets in 109 of their 198 matches.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs are quickly becoming the overtime crew of the NBA with the constant need to enter an extra frame or two to decide outcomes. In the original meeting with the Rockets on December 3rd, San Antonio required two extra frames to beat the Rockets.
They enter this match having played four consecutive overtime games winning three out of four. In their last game, the Spurs played in Mexico City defeating the Phoenix Suns 121-119 in overtime.

Six Spurs scored in double figures with reserve veteran Patty Mills leading the way dropping 26 points. A trio of players posted 18 point outings including DeMar DeRozan, LaMarcus Aldridge and Dejounte Murray.
Lonnie Walker IV who broke out recently to become a consistent bench producer scored 16 but had to leave the game with an injury which hopefully isn’t serious.
Rudy Gay was the sixth Spurs player to reach double-digit production.
On the season, DeMar DeRozan is the team leader in scoring (21.2 points) assists (4.7) and field goal percentage (50.5%). LaMarcus Aldridge tops the team leaderboard for rebounding (7.1), and blocks (1.8) while Dejounte Murray is the steals leader (1.7).
As noted Walker IV left the game versus the Suns with a right knee contusion, and is questionable for the match on Monday.
Houston Rockets
James Harden continues to feast against the competition incredibly scoring 50 or more points in four of his last eight games to lead the Association in scoring with 39.3 points per game.

His superstar partner Russell Westbrook isn’t being tasked to do as much but is meshing well into the ‘watch James play’ system in Houston. Westbrook was sat for load management in the last game versus the Pistons.
Despite not shooting the ball well Westbrook can still get a triple-double on any given night which he did the last time these two teams met.
In the match against Detroit, Harden led the way with 39 points but the Rockets lost the game. Clint Capela dropped a double-double of 12 points and 19 rebounds.
The trio of Chris Clemons (17), Austin Rivers (14) and Ben McLemore (13) each pitched in with double-figure scoring.
Harden leads the team in scoring (39.3), assists (7.5) and steals (2.0) while Capela leads in rebounding (14.7), field goal percent (63.6) and blocks (2.0).
Austin Rivers is sporting a sprained finger but is expected to play Monday. Tyson Chandler has missed the last five games due to illness but also is expected to suit up Monday.
Eric Gordon (knee) is out until late December. Gerald Green will be out until early May after surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. Nene (groin) remains out with an uncertain return date.
