Friday, January 29th, the Sacramento Kings and Toronto Raptors will play for the second time in the 2020-21 campaign.
Toronto won the initial meeting of this season in dramatic fashion. Sacramento jumped on the visiting Raptors scoring 43 points in the opening frame and built a 19 point lead.
By the time the teams entered the lockers at halftime the Kings had scored 74 points but held a slim three-point lead. The second half was all Raptors as they scored 73 points and won by 21 (144-123) punctuated by 20 deep balls.
That victory extended the Raptors’ win streak versus the Kings to seven games in a row.
Last season, the squads played twice with the Raptors sweeping the regular-season series. Sacramento holds the all-time record between the squads with 26 victories in the team’s 48 meetings.
Sacramento Kings
The Kings kicked off a four-game road trip in Orlando beating the Magic and look to make it three in a row. This is the front side of a back-to-back set.
Sacramento jumped on the Magic and built a 19-point lead with all the starters reaching double-figure scoring.
De’Aaron Fox registered a double-double of 16 points and 10 assists plus eight rebounds while Buddy Hield was the top scorer with 29 points.
Harrison Barnes (21), Richaun Holmes (20), and Marvin Bagley III (16) rounded out a strong performance by the starting unit.
Nemanja Bjelica (back spasms) is doubtful and Jahmi’us Ramsey (groin) is definitely out for Friday. DaQuan Jeffries is out indefinitely with a grade three ankle sprain.
Toronto Raptors
A big issue for the Raptors is they don’t enough shots in the paint and subsequently rank 25th for free throw attempts.
In their recent game once again they lost at the line – or rather lost by not getting to the line. Giannis Antetokounmpo (14) took more free throws than the entire Raptors squad.
The Bucks took 26 free throws including 13 in the fourth quarter and in contrast the Raptors took 12 of which none occurred in the final frame.
If the Raptors had taken a similar number of free throws instead of 14 less than the Bucks the game was well within their grasp. It’s something Nurse needs to fix within his offense because Toronto has lost at least five games because of not getting to the line.
Norman Powell led the scoring with 26 points, Fred VanVleet registered a double-double (10 points, 10 assists) and Kyle Lowry scored 21 joining DeMar DeRozan and Chris Bosh as the only players in franchise history to score 10,000 points.
Pascal Siakam (11) Aron Baynes (11), and Chris Boucher (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
OG Anunoby missed the last game with a calf strain and remains questionable for Friday.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over is 8-3 in SAC last 11 road games.
- TOR are 3-11 ATS in their last 14 home games.
- Under is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings.
Free Sacramento Kings vs. Toronto Raptors NBA Prediction:
Siakam did not look 100 percent in his return, Lowry continues to deal with a toe injury and Anunoby is expected to be out. That’s a lot of the firepower for the Raptors if that trio can’t go or are playing at less than 100 percent.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Raptors -5.5
That said, the last time these teams met the Raptors found their groove, and will hope this sparks another positive run.
