(14-17) Sacramento Kings vs. Portland Trail Blazers (13-20)
The Portland Trail Blazers and Sacramento Kings don’t like each other. It’d be difficult to qualify this as a full-fledged rivalry, but controversy between DeMarcus Cousins and Meyers Leonard seems to pop up every time they face off.
*All statistics, rankings and trends are current as of this writing at 5:45 p.m. ET on Tuesday, Dec. 27.
We all know that DeMarcus Cousins is an elite ball player. We also know that he can be a complete knucklehead at times.
Last time these two faced off, a mere week ago, we saw both at play.
Along with going for 55 points, Cousins made his presence felt in one of the weirdest sequences you’ll ever see on an NBA floor. He picked up an and-1 opportunity, taunted the Blazers bench, spit his mouthguard in the direction of Leonard (accidentally or intentionally is for each to decide) and was ejected for receiving his second technical foul.
Except, after emphatically disputing the second technical and eventually bolting full speed back to the locker room, the T was rescinded and Boogie was allowed to rejoin the contest.
Cousins went on to pick up a crucial block on Damian Lillard after returning to the floor.
Don’t expect the same kind of drama in this one, but do expect there to be plenty of bad blood, giving Cousins all the motivation he needs to torch a porous Portland defense.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers are struggling. They’ve lost 10 of their last 11 contests, and despite finally putting up a nice defensive showing in their recent game against the Toronto Raptors only managed to score 91 points with Lillard sidelined.
The good news here is that CJ McCollum has proven he can take over against the Kings, even if that wasn’t the case against the Raptors. The 2-guard has opened up in the past about his draft process, and how Sacramento told him he was going to be their pick.
As it turned out, the Kings passed on McCollum and took Ben McLemore, who has yet to make his presence felt in the Association.
Another player with plenty of motivation is Leonard. He seems to get up for contests with Cousins, but his postgame comments last outing about not respecting the guy makes it obvious he’ll look to exceed expectations in this one.

Free New York Knicks vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
All of the recent trends point to a Sacramento win ATS. But one thing it doesn’t take into account is motivation.

Boogie is likely the only player in Sacramento who feels any sort of hatred toward Portland. Count him in for a huge night.
But it’s the entire Blazers roster that feels Cousins challenged their manhood with all of the shenanigans last time around.
Look for Portland to come out ready to play a physical brand of basketball on Wednesday.
