Portland Trail Blazers vs. Phoenix Suns Odds & Last 5
This year, the Suns won the regular season series, taking two of the three meetings, although they haven’t seen each other since February.
These squads have an extensive playoff experience, having played seven series in history. The Suns hold the edge in those series, taking four of the seven series, including their last series in 2010.
Portland finished the season going 10-4 with some quality wins along the way. They’ve battled injuries, but got back Shaedon Sharpe at season’s end, which could factor in this match.
Phoenix wasn’t as strong during the stretch run, going 6-10 through their last 16 matches. Like their opponent, they navigated injuries as both Devon Booker and Dillon Brooks spent time sidelined.
The Suns are favored to win by 3.5 points with an over/under of 217 points.

Portland Trail Blazers vs. Phoenix Suns bottom line:
On the surface, these clubs are extremely similar, playing aggressively on defense, and they both have several athletic players.
If the Blazers are to get an advantage, they’ll need to hit the paint, as the Suns have the second-best perimeter defense.
There is a pretty big differential in how the teams perform in specific venues. To wit, the Blazers are 18-23 on the road while the Suns are 24-17 at home.

Trail Blazers Suns Free Pick: Suns -3.5
Here is my Trail Blazers Suns free pick.
Devin Booker will be the best player on the court, and look for Dillon Brooks to try to get into the heads of the Blazers early.
However, there is a key factor that can’t be ignored. If Portland makes the playoffs, it’ll lose its draft pick to the Chicago Bulls, whereas a loss would mean they retain it.
That might not seem like sacrificing for the experience the youngsters could gain in a playoff series, but with this draft being loaded, it might be worth it to miss moving on.
Per John Schuhmann: The Suns’ improvement from last season is almost all about the possession game. They have seen the league’s second biggest improvement on defense, largely because they’ve seen a huge jump in opponent turnover rate. And they’ve stayed afloat (a little worse than average) offensively because they’ve seen the biggest jump in offensive rebounding percentage by a wide margin.
In terms of injuries, both teams have players listed as questionable, with Grayson Allen (Suns) and Jereami Grant (Blazers) both marked as out until April 14th.
I know it might seem like a stretch to mention the Blazers’ draft pick, especially when we look at how some teams fared on Sunday trying to lose (Boston/Denver), but they are deeper, better clubs
Ultimately, I think ownership makes the call and will tell Tiago Splitter it would behoove them to lose — I mean, this is considered the best draft in years, and one more solid core member could shift the Blazers future.
Therefore, I’ll take the Suns to win at home and cover the meager spread.
