This Thursday night match-up will see the Portland Trail Blazers take on the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Portland Trail Blazers
The Trail Blazers saw Carmelo hit a game winning shot against the Raptors to give them the 101-99 win in their last game. Portland still comes into this game with a below average record, but they have won two out of their last three games.
Offense has not been that much of an issue for Portland as they are the 11th ranked scoring offense in the league. They are averaging 112 points per game. Their shooting percentage is 45.2%, which is 18th, but their three-point shooting is ranked 12th at 36.2%
Not surprising but Damien Lillard is leading this team with 26.9 points per game. CJ McCollum averages 21.9 points per game, so about 43.5% of their points come from these two on average.
Two other major contributors are Carmelo Anthony and Hassan Whiteside. Anthony just dropped 28 points against the Raptors and is now averaging 16.5 points per game. Whiteside is the only player on the team to average a double-double with 15.8 points and 14 rebounds per game.

Defense has been a bit of an issue as they allow 113.6 points per game. This gives them the 21st ranked scoring defense in the NBA. The strange part is they allow teams to shoot just 44.4% from the field, ranked 10th. However, they struggle to defend the three-point line, allowing teams to shoot 36.1%.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves lost to the Memphis Grizzlies last time out by a score of 119-112. This loss snapped their quick two-game winning streak. While they still do not have a good record, they are still just 1.5 games out of 8th place in the Western Conference.
Offensively, Minnesota is doing a decent job this season. They are the 12th best scoring offense and are averaging 111.8 points per game. Their shooting percentages are way down near the bottom of the league, averaging 43.2% from the field and 32.2% from the three-point line.
Because their former leading scorer, Karl Anthony Towns is out indefinitely, Andrew Wiggins has taken over that role while averaging 24.1 points per game. Jeff Teague has also provided a spark, averaging 13.9 points per game. Other than a few other role players, the Timberwolves are pretty thin right now.
Defense has been a glaring issue for the Timberwolves this season. They have the 24th ranked scoring defense in the league and are allowing 114.4 points per game. Can Minnesota stop Lillard and McCollum is the question you have to ask yourself. One of these guys is liking going to have a huge game, so slowing them down is a must.
Not to mention the other role players on Portland, putting the Timberwolves in a tough spot.
