Hassan Whiteside was brought in this offseason to quell the loss of Jusuf Nurkic and this will be his return to Miami who he has a storied past with. Expect him to want to make a statement on Bam Adebayo who has more than aptly filled Whiteside’s shoes.
The Blazers were on a five-game losing streak prior to their win over the Wizards (122-103) on Friday. In the victory Whiteside delivered a massive 23 points, 21 rebounds double-double and added five blocks.
Damian Lillard was the high scorer with 35 points while CJ McCollum (24), Carmelo Anthony (23) and Mario Hezonja (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Two starters lead all the stat categories and not surprisingly Damian Lillard tops the scoring (26.9 points), assists (7.4) and steals (1.0). The other three categories are led by Hassan Whiteside including rebounds (13.8), field goal percentage (59.9%), and blocks (2.8).
Skal Labissiere is nursing left knee inflammation having missed the last three games with no timetable for return.
Rodney Hood (Achilles) will miss the remainder of the season. Jusuf Nurkic (leg) remains out until February and Zach Collins (shoulder) won’t return until March.

In a common occurrence this season the Heat will beat a top-ranked team and then lose the very next game — often badly. That was the case in the win over Toronto followed by the beat down in Orlando. On six different occasions this season they’ve followed a win over a top team with a loss and three of those were against lower-tier teams.
In the loss to the Magic, the Heat couldn’t find an offensive rhythm and their youngsters weren’t able to hit the perimeter shots they did versus Toronto, even wide-open looks. Jimmy Butler tried to will them to a win leading the way with a double-double of 23 points and 10 rebounds plus seven assists.
Bam Adebayo also collected a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds but he was the only other Heat player to register double-figure scoring.
These two stars also lead the way in team statistical categories with Jimmy Butler the top man in scoring (20.4), assists (6.6) and steals (2.0). Bam Adebayo tops the other categories with 10.7 rebounds, 1.2 blocks, and field goal percent (57.1%).
James Johnson has missed the past three games due to illness and is questionable for Sunday. Justise Winslow remains out with a lower-back strain and won’t suit up for this match nor will Udonis Haslem who remains out due to an illness.
