The NBA ushers in New Year Day with a full slate of games including the Golden State Warriors playing host to the Portland Trail Blazers.

In the match that many were awaiting after the drama in the Orlando bubble, the Clippers drew first blood defeating the Blazers 128-105.

Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum who were active on social media rubbing in the Clippers’ defeat in the second round of the playoffs after leading the series 3-1 delivered but their teammates failed to rise to the challenge.
McCollum’s hot hand continued as he nailed seven of his 11 perimeter shots finishing with 25 points to lead the Blazers.
Lillard wasn’t as successful from deep uncharacteristically missing all eight of his attempts but made up for it at the free-throw line converting 14 of his 15 attempts and finishing with 20 points.
Carmelo Anthony (15) and Enes Kanter (10) were the only other players to reach double-figures.
Nassir Little has been out dealing with the COVID-19 health and safety protocols and his return for Saturday is questionable
Gary Trent Jr. didn’t play in the last match due to a strained calf muscle and his participation in this match is questionable. Zach Collins (ankle surgery) is slated to make his return in late January.
Golden State Warriors
Turns out the Pistons were the perfect elixir for the Warriors who’ve struggled to nab easy victories through the early season.
Stephen Curry led the team with 31 points, six assists, five rebounds, and two steals plus nailed five of his nine 3-point attempts but he was on the bench when the game was won.
Andrew Wiggins and rookie James Wiseman took over implementing a 12-0 run that cemented the victory.
Wiggins was spectacular with 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists, a steal, and three blocks. Having struggled from the perimeter in the prior matches Wiggins found his range connecting on five of his eight attempts.
Wiseman has looked more like a grizzled vet than a rookie offering six points, six rebounds, and an assist but his defense was where he stood out finishing with a game-high plus +23.
Draymond Green (foot) remained sidelined and is questionable to play as is Alen Smailagic (knee). The Dubs suffered another injury blow with news Marquese Chriss is out for the season after suffering a right syndesmosis ankle injury and a fibular fracture.
