Phoenix Suns
Phoenix completed a mini sweep in Dallas and won its third game in a row with a 109–108 win on Monday night.
Chris Paul scored a season-high 34 points on a sizzling 14-of-20 from the field. He turned it over five times but made up for that with nine rebounds, nine assists and two steals.
Devin Booker backed Paul with 24 points of his own and Deandre Ayton continued his wreckage on the boards with 17 for a second straight game.
Ayton hasn’t missed a game in this his third pro season and he’s cleaning up on the glass. He’s gone into double-digits in all but four games and is averaging over a dozen boards per game.
The big fella staying healthy, Paul’s presence and the stability both Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson are providing on the wing, to mention but a few, are why Phoenix has taken a leap into the top half of the league.
Going into Wednesday’s game, the Suns are the ninth-best team in the league, according to Net Rating. Competition to reach the playoffs out West is tight, though.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans know all about that. They have players and they’ve stayed relatively healthy so far this season but the wins just are not flowing.
New Orleans lost at home to Sacramento on Monday as a three-point favorite, 118–109.
Brandon Ingram led six scorers in double-figures with 20. Zion Williamson was next with 17 but he turned it over four times to just two assists.
Jaxson Hayes started for the first time this season with Steven Adams out with a calf injury. He only played twelve minutes, in part because he committed four fouls.
JJ Redick sat out for a third consecutive game with trade rumors about. The Pelicans miss his shooting and they will raise the white flag on making the playoffs this season if they send him away permanently.

Free Phoenix Suns vs New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction: Phoenix.
This number isn’t too much to ask for Phoenix to cover. The Suns have won two in a row on the road and this will make it a clean sweep before headed back home. That’s a nice prize to play for.
If Adams misses this game as well there will be no one to contest Ayton on the boards. New Orleans needs its starting center for this one so keep an eye on his status as game time gets closer.
Same goes for Redick but it seems increasingly likely he will miss the game again. New Orleans will have to get shooting elsewhere.
