The NBA ushers in New Year Day with a full slate of games including the Denver Nuggets who’ll play host to the Phoenix Suns.
Last season, the squads played four times with the Nuggets sweeping the season series. The Suns hold the all-time record having won 97 matches of the 179 played.
Phoenix Suns
Through the early season, the Phoenix Suns are living up to the hype of being in the mix for a playoff berth this year. In their most recent contest, the Suns proved some of the early successes might be luck of schedule as they easily dispatched the Pelicans via a 111-86 victory.
Through four games the acquisition of Chris Paul is proving beneficial as he and Devin Booker are meshing and leading the Suns. Although the 25 point barrage of the Pelicans didn’t require either to offer more than to support their teammates who were more responsible for the win.
Jae Crowder led the way with 21 points while Deandre Ayton registered a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds. Cameron Johnson is blossoming nicely in his sophomore season and pitched in 18 points.
Mikal Bridges (13), Cameron Payne (13), and Dario Saric (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Head coach, Monty Williams was quick to site his club’s defensive effort after the match and credits the team’s improvement with their play on that end of the hardwood.
Jalen Smith (ankle) and Abdel Nader (concussion) are questionable for Friday.
Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokic served up another triple-double in the losing effort featuring 26 points, 12 assists, and 15 rebounds. Unfortunately, the offensive showcase was marred by ten turnovers by the big man. That equated to half of the turnovers by the team which netted 37 points for the Sacramento Kings.
Michael Porter Jr. stepped up in the absence of Jamal Murray delivering a double-double of 30 points and 10 rebounds. Monte Morris offered 24 points while Gary Harris added 11 points as the only other two double-figure contributors.
Jamal Murray felt an issue with his elbow during warmup and subsequently didn’t play versus the Kings. The loss of key defenders this offseason is creating issues for the Nuggets.
One player who’ll help with that equation is JaMychal Green who hasn’t played yet due to a calf injury Greg Whittington has a left knee sprain. All three are questionable for Friday.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Phoenix Suns vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
The Suns played the Jazz in the late match Friday night which may be why the odds hadn’t been finalized late in the evening. The fact they’re playing could also impact this next game of a back-to-back set on the road.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Suns +4
It’s a tough schedule trick against the Suns as the play in high altitude in a back-to-back on the road first in Utah and then in Denver who are sitting at home awaiting the Suns’ arrival. Factor in the Nuggets loss to the Kings and coach Mike Malone’s angst in his post-game comments which should equate to a Nuggets crew being focused, aggressive, and ready.
