Saturday, January 21st, the Philadelphia 76ers and Sacramento Kings meet for the second and final time this season. Philly won the initial meeting 123-103 on December 13th.
The 76ers last played on Thursday beating the Blazers 105-95 while the Kings played the front side of a back-to-back on Friday defeating the Thunder 118-113.
The Sixers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 171 wins in 299 meetings versus the Kings. Last season, the teams played twice with the Philly winning both contests and currently on an eight-game winning streak versus Sacramento.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Friday evening, January 20th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Saturday, January 21st.
Philadelphia 76ers
It sure looks like the Sixers are using this road trip to make a statement as they defeated the Blazers to make it four straight road wins and will try to make it a sweep with this contest in Sacramento.
The stars shone brightly in Portland as Joel Embiid led the way offering 32 points and nine rebounds while James Harden collected his fourth triple-double (16 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists) in the last 14 matches
A trio of others scored in double-figures including Tyrese Maxey (15) who continues to come in off the bench plus Tobias Harris (11) and Shake Milton (10).
Philly dominated the paint scoring (56 to 34) but needs to address their defensive rebounding issues as they coughed up 13 offensive boards to the Blazers.
Stats
This season, the 76ers score an average of 113.7 points per game ranking 15th. Also, Philly shoots 48.1% from the field and 37.9% from the perimeter, ranking eighth and fourth respectively.
Furthermore, the defensive side of the hardwood is where the 76ers make their mark allowing 109.8 points per game which is the third-fewest.
In short, Philly ranks 10th for field goal percentage at 46.7% and allows the second-lowest perimeter efficiency of 34.0%.
Sacramento Kings
While the Pelicans, Mavericks, Wolves, Clippers, Warriors, Suns, and Lakers deal with injuries to stars it offered the perfect opportunity for the relatively healthy Kings to make a move.
They seized the moment currently on a six-game winning streak following the entertaining victory versus the Thunder (another hot club) on Friday.
Rookie Keegan Murray got out to a slow start garnering some criticism about his fourth overall selection, but he’s rising to the challenge lately and showing why he deserved to be picked that high.
Murray was the top performer on Friday serving up career-bests in points (29) and rebounds (14) while Domantas Sabonis who was questionable to play delivered a triple-double of 18 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds.
Stats
Offensively, the Kings are among the very best in the association with the highest scoring output averaging 119.8 points per game. Similarly, they perform well in the proficiency areas registering 49.2% from the field and 36.6% from deep ranking fourth and 10th overall.
Sacramento ranks 23rd in opponent scoring allowing 116.8 points per game while foes shoot 48.9% from the field and 36.0% from the perimeter ranking 28th and 18th respectively.
Alex Len (illness), Matthew Dellavedova (illness), and Domanta Sabonis (illness) are all questionable for Saturday.

Free Philadelphia 76ers vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
While both teams enter the night with win streaks in tow the Kings arguably need this win more. Sacramento has two more games at home after this match including the team in front of them (Grizzlies) and then will play 16 of their next 24 on the road
After 16 lottery seasons, the Kings are desperate to make the playoffs and the goal is clearly to earn a playoff berth while avoiding the play-in tournament. They sit third and hold a four-game lead over the team in seventh.
While on paper this might look like a battle of bigs (Embiid vs. Sabonis) it’s much more likely to come down to the guards and wings. Specifically, the ability of the 76ers to stop De’Aaron Fox, Keegan Murray, and Kevin Huerter.
Sacramento is 3-3 in the second game of back-to-backs and while the 76ers have the major rest advantage I just don’t trust Harden and co. to be able to stop the Kings’ guards and wings.
