Friday, January 3rd, Philadelphia 76ers face the Houston Rockets in the clubs first meeting of the season.
Last season, the teams played twice and split the contests. The Rockets hold the all-time record having bested the 76ers in 73 of their 143 matches
Philadelphia 76ers
After absolutely annihilating the Bucks on Christmas Day the 76ers are struggling having lost three in a row. It’s an ongoing issue the team has suffered this season where they play one way at home and another on the road.

In fairness two of the losses came down to a single point with one in overtime. Unfortunately, with expectations come extra attention and now the players are making statements like Josh Richardson citing no accountability in the locker room, read: calling out leadership.
The timing of Richardson’s comments could prove problematic since the 76ers are on a scheduling stretch where they face six seeded teams in a row with the Rockets first on the slate.
In their last game, Joel Embiid sat due to knee soreness. In his absence, only two players reached double figures including Richardson who led with 20 points and Ben Simmons who posted a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds.
On the season, Joel Embiid is the team leader in scoring (23.7) and rebounds (12.4). Ben Simmons leads three categories including assists (8.5), steals (2.2) and field goal percent (56.0%) while Al Horford leads for blocks (1.0).
Embiid is questionable for Friday as are Ennis III (stomach ailment) and Kyle O’Quinn (illness).
Matisse Thybulle will miss up to a month with a right knee sprain and a bone bruise.
Houston Rockets
Like the 76ers the Rockets are in a bit of a funk with two losses and two wins in their last four games. The issue is the losses came against the lower tier Warriors and Pelicans.
Part of the reason for the loss to the Pelicans was the absence of James Harden (toe), Russell Westbrook (rest) and Clint Capela. All three are expected in the lineup Friday.
In the win over Denver, Harden led the way with 35 points. Westbrook (28), Capela (16), Isaiah Hartenstein (16) and Eric Gordon (12) were the other double-figure contributors.
Harden leads the team in scoring (38.2), assists (7.5) and steals (1.8) while Capela leads in rebounding (14.2), field goal percent (63.9) and blocks (1.9).
Tyson Chandler missed the last two games with right shoulder spasms and pain in his ribs. Thabo Sefolosha missed the past five games with an illness. Both are questionable for Friday.
Gerald Green will be out until early May after surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot. Nene (groin) remains out with an uncertain return date.
