On Sunday, January 8th, the Philadelphia 76ers and Detroit Pistons play for the second of three scheduled matches in the front side of a home and home series.
The 76ers won the initial December 21st match 113-93 and will host the final match between the clubs in two days (January 10th).
The teams both played on Friday with the 76ers losing 112-126 to the Bulls while the Pistons lost 109-121 to the Spurs.

Whenever I see Joel Embiid on the injury report with the reason tied to his foot it always sends up a red flag.
The big man has been much better the last few seasons at staying healthy but there should always be concern about his feet especially because it was a foot injury that caused him to red-shirt his true rookie season and what would’ve been his sophomore season.
He entered the season dealing with plantar fasciitis so if that’s bothering him again the answer is one thing – extended rest. While the Sixers can offer Embiid rest the “extended” portion is likely coming unless the club elects to offset ranking to give him a longer break.
This season, the 76ers score an average of 112.6 points per game ranking 17th. Philly shoots 47.6% from the field and 38.3% from the perimeter, ranking 11th and third respectively.
Defense is where the 76ers make their mark allowing the third-fewest opponent points per game with 109.2 as well as the third lowest perimeter efficiency of 34.2% while ranking ninth for opponent field goal percentage allowing opponents to shoot 46.6%.

Detroit Pistons
The Pistons occasionally are very competitive as we witnessed this week when they beat the defending champions ending the Dubs’ five-game win streak with Detroit becoming just the third opponent to win at Chase Center.
Then they turned around and lost to the tanking Spurs by double figures. It highlighted the youth of the Pistons and reminded us that this team is still very much a work in progress.
From a statistical perspective, there aren’t many highlights for the Pistons who struggle on both sides of the hardwood. They allow opponents to score an average of 119.0 points per game which ranks second worst at 29th.
Their opponent’s field goal percentage is 49.1% also ranking 29th while their best defensive stat in the key categories is the opponent’s three-point percentage as foes shoot 35.9% from deep which ranks 17th overall.
Offensively, the Pistons score 111.8 points per game which rank 24th. From an efficiency perspective, the Pistons shoot the fourth worst of the 30 teams (27th) with 45.0% from the field and rank 17th from the perimeter shooting 35.5%.
Isaiah Livers (shoulder) and Marving Bagley III (hand) are out indefinitely, while Cade Cunningham (shin) had surgery and was shut down for the season.
