Embiid has a torn tendon in his hand and will have surgery and then be re-evaluated in a week or two. He’ll probably miss more than a week or two, which is what the injury report states. Regardless, he won’t play here.

Mike Scott started in Embiid’s place in Thursday’s game against Boston, which Philadelphia won, 109–98. The Sixers have won all three games against Boston so far this season and go for the season sweep on February 1 back in Boston.
Josh Richardson had twenty-nine points and seven assists. He’s gone for at least twenty in three of his last four games and is on a run with the assist numbers. He’s thrown twenty-four in his last four games.
Philadelphia will be fine on the boards without Embiid. Scott is a physical player who can hold his own. Ben Simmons is a forward in the backcourt and Al Horford can handle the five for the time being.
It won’t be easier without Embiid than with him but his absence will open up some opportunities for others, individually, and the team as a whole.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks won’t have Kristaps Porzingis, who has been bothered by a sore knee.
The ‘Zinger has missed five games in a row at the time of this writing and won’t play against the Lakers on Friday night or in this game on Saturday.
Porzingis isn’t have a good season. He is scoring just seventeen points per game, the lowest since his rookie season in 2015/16, on forty percent field goal percentage, which is a career low.
Luka Doncic, good as his season has been, statistically, takes by far the most three-pointers on the team (9.4 per game). He only shoots the eleventh-best percentage, however.
Dorian Finney-Smith, Seth Curry and Maxi Kleber all shoot better than thirty-nine percent but Doncic is a big reason they get as many good looks they do.
