Friday, January 27th, finds the Orlando Magic facing the Miami Heat in the first of four scheduled contests. Miami will host on February 11th and March 11th while Orlando will host the final meeting between the clubs on April 9th.
The Magic last played Wednesday defeating the shorthanded Pacers 126-120 while the Heat defeated the similarly shorthanded Celtics 98-95 on Tuesday.
Last season the Southeast Division rivals played four times with the Heat winning three of the four contests. The Heat holds the edge in the all-time record with 73 wins in 130 matches versus the Magic.

Orlando Magic
It was a long time coming but as my recent posts hinted Jonathan Isaac’s return was imminent. That prediction turned out to be accurate as the Magic forward returned to the court two games ago.
Isaac suffered both ACL and MCL injuries in the bubble and subsequently didn’t play competitively for over two and half years missing 211 games.
In both games, he’s subbed in as a reserve offering 10 points, three rebounds, an assist, and two blocks in 10 minutes versus the Celtics and five points, a rebound, two assists, and two steals in 8 minutes versus the Pacers.
Orlando won both games and while it’s obvious Jamahl Mosley is easing him back, it’s notable Isaac isn’t forcing his game but is still impacting winning.
However, the question remains — what will the Magic do at the trade deadline? They have a glut of front-court talents and there are several playoff teams who would be eager to add depth.

Offensively the Magic average 111.3 points per game ranking 27th shooting 47.3% from the field (14th) and 35.3% from the perimeter (20th).
Defensively, they hold opponents to 114.5 points (17th) with them shooting 47.3% from the field (16th) and 34.6% from the perimeter (5th).
Chuma Okeke (knee) remains out indefinitely.
Miami Heat
Holding the best team in the NBA to 95 points is impressive even though Boston was missing Jaylen Brown, Al Horford, Marcus Smart, and Al Horford.

What was a feel-good story and a great example of how true role models act has quickly shifted direction however as it turns out the young man Felipe and his sibling (sister I assume) are clout chasers having done precisely the same thing prior with an almost identical sign.
The difference being while they held the Argentina flag in their Steph Curry sign they listed the mileage as almost double (in truth the distance from Argentina to America is 5,600 so both signs offered hints of the ruse).
Kudos to Butler for his class act — unfortunately this clout-chasing con probably negatively impacts future situations for youngsters who truly do idolize a specific player.

Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 108.2 points per game ranking second. Miami opponents shoot 47.4% from the field and 36.9% from the perimeter ranking 19th and 25th respectively.
Jimmy Butler (back), Max Strus (shoulder), Caleb Martin (quad), and Haywood Highsmith (shin) are probable. Duncan Robinson (finger), Nikola Jovic (back), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) are out.
