Magic vs. Pistons Gameday
It’s the two best words in sports on Sunday as the Orlando Magic and Detroit Pistons play in Game 7. The winner will move on to face the winner of the Cavaliers/Raptors match in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
The teams arrive at this contest having made history on Friday when the Pistons overcame a 22-point deficit to win a 93-79 slugfest, and force this pivotal game.
Orlando was scoreless for 45 minutes as they missed 23 consecutive shots during the Pistons’ run to overtake them. Only three Magic players registered double figures as Paolo Banchero and Desmond Bane scored 17 points, and Tristan Da Silva scored 10 points. Franz Wagner did not play.
Similarly, the Pistons had just three players score in double figures, with Cade Cunningham scoring 32 points plus 10 rebounds for a double-double, and Tobias Harris joined him with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons Odds & Last 5
The teams split this campaign, each winning twice, although one of those Magic wins came with most of the Pistons’ core being rested.
This is the fifth meeting between the clubs in postseason history, with Detroit holding the edge three series to one. It’s been since the Dwight Howard era that these clubs played in the postseason.
To finish the season, the Magic were flailing, hitting some major lows and seldom looking like a squad to be afraid of. They were in the mix to finish as high as fifth but fell into the Play-In and needed both opportunities to reach the playoffs.
In contrast, Detroit sewed up the top seed with ample time to spare, allowing the club to ease Cunningham back into rhythm while also taking the final few games to sit and rest their core.
The Pistons are favored by an 8.5-point spread with an over/under of 202.5 points.
Magic Stats
Orlando ranks 18th (114.2) on offense and tied for 13th on defense (113.6). Additionally, the Magic are 17th in net rating (+0.6) and possess the 14th-quickest pace (100.56).
The East’s eighth seed averages 115.7 points per game while its opponents average 115.1 points. In terms of dimes and boards, Orlando averages 26.5 (15th) and 43.4 (19th), respectively.
Orlando’s team leaders* are Paolo Banchero for scoring (22.2 points) and rebounds (8.4), Jalen Suggs for assists (5.5) and steals (1.8), and Goga Bitadze for blocks (1.0).
While the Magic only shoot 34.3% from the perimeter as a team, they have four players who shoot above the league average from deep.

Pistons Stats
Detroit ranks 16th offensively (116.8), second defensively (108.7), and tied for third in net rating (+8.1) while running a pace of 100.00, which ranks 19th in the association.
The East’s top-place Pistons average 27.5 assists (13th) and 45.6 rebounds (eighth). Detroit scores 117.5 points per game while its opponents average 109.6 points.
Team leaders* in the key categories are Cade Cunningham for scoring (24.5), assists (9.9), and steals (1.5), while Jalen Duren leads rebounding (10.7), and Isaiah Stewart leads for blocks (1.6).
Perimeter scoring is a weakness for the Pistons, who shoot with an efficiency of 35.3% as a team, with four players shooting over the league average.

Orlando Magic vs. Detroit Pistons bottom line:
It’s do or die in this ultimate game as both teams will be playing desperately. Flipping back to Friday, the Magic players left the court to a chorus of boos from their fan base and for that reason might be even more focused on erasing the taste of that choke job.
While the Pistons have struggled to score, the Magic now own that record, scoring just 19 points (8 in the fourth) in the second half of Game 6, which is the least in NBA Playoffs history.
As evidenced on Friday, the team that gets the early lead isn’t necessarily guaranteed to win the match, but it would behoove both clubs to stick to the fundamentals and strike first.

Magic Pistons Free Pick: Magic +8.5
Here is my Magic Pistons free pick.
Each club is offensively challenged and has demonstrated great defensive chops at times in the series. On Sunday, the team that handles both sides of the hardwood will have the advantage. It will really come down to which club is grittier and more ready for the challenge.
Detroit just went through a similar test last season, whereas this version of the Magic is inexperienced, plus they won’t have Wagner again.
Prepare for an old fashioned, grueling mucked up series as the Magic appear to have rediscovered the defense that had pundits raving about them this past offseason.
Look for Cade Cunningham and Paolo Banchero to draw the most attention as Game 7’s typically come down to which superstar rises to the challenge the best.
I expect a better effort from Orlando in this game, and for that reason, I’ll take the points, but I like Detroit to prevail to move forward in the postseason.
