Sunday, January 15th, finds the Orlando Magic playing the Denver Nuggets in the first of two scheduled meetings. Orlando will host the second contest on February 9th.
Both teams last played on Friday with the Magic having lost 108-112 to the Jazz while the Nuggets defeated the Clippers 115-103 despite not having Nikola Jokic in the lineup.
Last season the clubs played twice splitting the season series with each team winning on their home court. The Nuggets hold the all-time record with 34 wins in 67 matches.

Orlando Magic
The recent rise of the Magic is largely due to the performance of their rookie Paolo Banchero and sophomore Franz Wagner.
These two are without a doubt the two players firmly cemented as part of the Magic’s foundation moving forward.
Banchero is averaging 21.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game shooting 43.7 percent from the field on 15.9 attempts and a less efficient 31 percent from deep on 4.3 attempts.
Wagner is the more efficient of the pair averaging 20.3 points while shooting 49.1 percent from the field on 15.1 attempts, 36.1% from deep on 4.6 attempts, and 85.2% from the stripe on 4.5 attempts.
Offensively the Magic average 110.3 points per game ranking 27th overall. They shoot 46.9% from the field and 34.5% from the perimeter ranking 18th and 21st respectively.
Defense
Defensively, Orlando holds their opponents to 114.2 points per game ranking 17th. The Magic allow opponents to shoot 47.1% from the field ranking 16th and foes shoot 34.1% from the perimeter ranking third best overall.
Gary Harris (finger) is questionable for Sunday while R.J. Hampton (not with the team) is out Sunday.
The big news out of Orlando is Jonathan Isaac is with the G League team getting in reps. Chuma Okeke, Chuma (knee surgery) is out indefinitely.
Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets have won 15 of their last 18 matches and are on a five-game winning streak but perhaps no game made more of a statement than the victory Friday against the Clippers because they did it without Nikola Jokic and frankly never looked like they would lose.
That the win came with both Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr. scoring 24 and 22 points and both looking very much like their pre-injury self should serve to embolden the Nuggets’ confidence.
Offense
Denver possesses the most lethal offense in the league scoring 117.0 points per game on average which ranks seventh. Their efficiency is top-notch as they connect from the field with 50.9% effectiveness and 40.1% from the perimeter which ranks second-best and first overall.
Denver ranks 14th for opponent scoring allowing 113.0 points while limiting foes to 47.9% from the field and 35.3% from deep ranking 24th and 12th respectively.
Murray tweaked his ankle for the second game in a row but is listed as probable and Vlatko Cancar (lower leg contusion) is also probable. Peyton Watson (groin), Jeff Green (hand fracture), and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.

Yes, the Nuggets have the best offense in the NBA and have registered the second-best defense over the past few weeks (finally getting to play a better balance of home games).
Still, this Magic team could pose some problems with their size. The good news is Nikola Jokic isn’t listed on the injury report so the presumption is he’ll play.
All this to say I’ll take the points and the Nuggets winning by less than 10.
