Friday, December 16th, the Orlando Magic and Miami Heat play the second of four scheduled matches. Boston won the initial contest on October 22nd 126-120. This is the first game of a baseball set with the second match on Sunday the 18th and final game in Orlando on January 23rd.
The Magic last played Wednesday defeating the Hawks 135-124 while the Celtics defeated the Lakers 122-118 in overtime on Tuesday.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Celtics sweeping the regular-season series and holding a current 10-game win streak versus Orlando. The Celtics hold the all-time record having bested the Magic in 73 of their 124 matches.

Much like the Rockets in the West, the Magic have found a rhythm and some confidence by beating the Clippers, sweeping the home baseball set versus the Raptors and extending the streak versus the Hawks.
This young group is proving how their length can be deadly and will be a handful in the coming years. Now if they can find a way to bring that confidence and success on the road they should be able to add some more wins to the mix.
Granted, that might not be their ideal goal but it’s hard to stop a young squad from wanting that once they’ve tasted some success.

Offensively the Magic average 109.1 points per game ranking 28th overall. They shoot 47.0% from the field and 34.4% from the perimeter ranking 17th and 20th respectively.
Defensively, Orlando holds their opponents to 113.7 points per game ranking 15th. The Magic allow opponents to shoot 47.4% from the field ranking 21st and foes shoot 33.8% from the perimeter ranking fifth overall.
Jalen Suggs (ankle), Gary Harris (hamstring), Wendell Carter Jr. (foot), Chuma Okeke (knee), and Jonathan Isaac (knee) are all out.

Entering the match versus the Lakers, Jayson Tatum (29.7) and Jaylen Brown (26.6) were the top-scoring combo in the NBA with a cumulative 56.3 points.
Based on that duo scoring 44 and 25 points in their overtime win they’ll retain that position over the second duo on the list LeBron James and Anthony Davis (who combined to score 70 points).
Perhaps the most noticeable takeaway from a game of that nature was the sheer number of field goal attempts those duos take. J & J combined to take 50 of the Celtics’ 104 shot attempts while the Lakers duo took 49 of the Lakers’ 94 attempts.
They were essentially playing half-court playoff iso-ball in December! That’s not necessarily a problem if everyone on the roster has bought into their roles but if the teams suffer any slippage or losing streaks it can quickly become an issue for the ‘support’ players who don’t get touches or shots.
Boston ranks top five across the board averaging 119.4 points (1st) while shooting 48.8% from the field to rank third-best and possess the second-best perimeter efficiency of 39.1%.
They’re improving defensively with opponents averaging 112.6 points (13th), 46.8% field goal shooting (14th), and 34.8% from the perimeter (11th).
UPDATE: Robert Williams III (knee) is expected to make his season debut in this match.
Al Horford (personal) is questionable while Danilo Gallinari (knee) is out for the season.
