The first encounter between these two teams this season led to a shootout. The Thunder eventually outlasted the Timberwolves in overtime.
It should be noted that the Timberwolves were without Andrew Wiggins who could have added much-needed offense in overtime as the Timberwolves ran out of gas.
This is an intriguing game between two teams still very much in contention for a playoff spot in the West. It should be another close encounter. The Thunder won the turnover and rebound battle in the last game and that just might be the difference in this one.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Timberwolves are beginning to recover from their 11 games losing streak back in December. They are developing an offensive identity with Towns as their vocal point and Wiggins providing a viable midrange threat.

The problem with the Timberwolves is that although they are good rebounding team they strangely do also give away a lot of rebounds to opponents.
They play at a high pace with Jeff Teague at point guard. When they are making their shots and flowing offensively they are hard to stop. When they are up against defensive such as the Thunder is when they hit their roadblocks.
The Timberwolves have fallen short in bench scoring and finding a reliable third option if Towns and Wiggins are slowed down.
Towns and Wiggins are great players to watch with great athleticism but they like the Timberwolves are more flash then grit. If this game stays close, a more experienced Thunder with Chris Paul is a better bet to close it out.
Oklahoma City Thunder
When Russel Westbrook was traded away, it certainly seemed that the Thunder were in rebuilding mode. It now seems the acquisition of Chris Paul and his big contract has brought life back to his career and the Thunder.
Credit needs to be given to head coach Billy Donovan for putting together a team a game plan that can contend this season. How they move forward in the coming years is still up in the air but as of now the Thunder are in 7th place in the West and have a winning record.
In a stacked Western Conference, no one saw the Thunder contending this season. This game against the Timberwolves is going to come down to their defense and whether they can slow down Karl Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins.
They didn’t have to deal with Wiggin in the last game and would want to limit his offensive productivity. Although the Thunder’s offense goes through spurts of inconsistency, they will be looking to win the rebound battle.
Although the Timberwolves have one of the NBA’s premier big men they are dead last in opponents rebounds per game, averaging 48.2. The Thunder’s center Steven Adams will want to take advantage of this and provide a lot of second-chance opportunities for them.
