Wednesday, February 10, the Oklahoma City Thunder will play the Los Angeles Lakers in the second match in three days.
The initial meeting on Monday required overtime to resolve with the Lakers winning 119-112. LA also won the initial match 128-99 on January 13th.
The Lakers hold the all-time record having won 148 matches of the 255 played. Last season, the squads played four times with the Lakers taking three of the four contests.
Oklahoma City Thunder
For those who hadn’t caught the Thunder this season or weren’t buying into the fact, they play with wild abandon in every match regardless of the opponent the game at the Staples Center on Monday should’ve cleared up those doubts.
Playing with only eight players the Thunder came close to stealing the victory in LA.
Even with a limited eight players available the Thunder proved how quickly they learn from prior mistakes given they lost by 29 points the last time these two teams played.
Granted the Lakers didn’t have Anthony Davis but the Thunder were missing copious core contributors.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander almost delivered a triple-double via 29 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. The youngster cooly drained three free-throws to force overtime but his club simply had no gas left in the tank playing their third game in four days.
Darius Bazley delivered a double-double of 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds.
Hamidou Diallo also registered a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. Last week Diallo offered a career-high 10 assists and he tied his career-best rebounding effort Monday.
Al Horford and Justin Jackson each scored 14 points as the other double-figure contributors.
Rookie Theo Maledon was oddly not playing based on health and safety protocols which kept him out of a game last week but he played in the game in between. Isaiah Roby (foot) didn’t play Monday and is questionable for Wednesday.
Mike Muscala took an elbow to the head in the last match and is in the concussion protocol program likely not available Wednesday. George Hill (thumb) will be out until March.
Los Angeles Lakers
LeBron James had to deliver his best effort particularly late in the match as the Lakers clawed back in a match they trailed for the majority of. Without his efforts, the game could easily have gone the way of the Thunder.
The Lakers pushed their win streak to five games in a row mostly due to James’ efforts as he produced a triple-double of 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists. It was his third triple-double of this season.
Kyle Kuzma registered a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds. Montrezl Harrell (21) Dennis Schroder (19), and Wesley Matthews (16) were the other double-figure contributors.
The Lakers maybe take lower-tier teams for granted as they also had to play a double-overtime game versus the Detroit Pistons in their last match.
Anthony Davis is dealing with Achilles tendinosis and his presence on Wednesday is questionable.
Kostas Antetokounmpo (right knee tendinitis), and Jared Dudley (calf) are both out with no clear timetable for their return to the lineup.
