OKC Thunder
The winning streak came to an end but not without a fight. It was a back-and-forth affair versus the Kings. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the way with 37 points on a highly efficient 16 of 23 adding seven assists, two steals and hit two of his three 3-point attempts.
OKC took the lead into half time but the Kings roared back in the third to hold the lead in the final frame and despite their best efforts the Thunder weren’t able to fully erase the deficit.
Josh Giddey and Lu Dort each scored 15 while Isaiah Joe continued his hot streak offering 21 off the bench including hitting seven of his 12 triple attempts.
Although the Thunder is flirting with being a play-in seed, if Sam Presti prefers the team to slip a bit in the second half a player he should consider dealing to gain more assets and/or draft picks would be Joe.
Stats
OKC allows 115.9 points per game ranking 20th. They allow opponents to shoot 46.3% from the field and 35.4% from deep which ranks ranking sixth and 11th respectively.
On the positive side, the Thunder scores 116.9 points per game which rank eighth overall. So far, in terms of shooting efficiency, they rank 20th from the field shooting 46.7%, and 16th from the perimeter shooting 35.9%.
At this time, Ousmane Dieng and Eugene Omoruyi are on G League assignment. Aleksej Pokusevski (leg), and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl (ankle) are out. Chet Holmgren, (foot surgery) will miss the entire season.
Denver Nuggets
With the Nuggets’ recent win and the Grizzlies winning streak ending Denver takes sole possession of first place in the West.
Just in case there was any doubt about how talented this team is or their depth, Denver won on Friday with their MVP resting a sore hamstring. In Jokic’s absence, Jamal Murray led the charge recording his first career triple-double (17 points, 10 rebounds, 14 assists).
The most impressive stats from the victory were the 16 steals and season-high 38 assists as Denver won for the 22nd time (16th in a row) at Ball Arena.
Stats
Denver possesses the best offense in the league scoring 117.6 points per game on average which ranks third. Also, their efficiency is the high mark in the NBA ranking first from the field with 51.2% effectiveness and also first from the perimeter shooting 39.9%.
To be sure, defensively the Nuggets are improving. So far, they allow opponents to score 113.1 points per game which ranks 14th while limiting foes to 47.9% from the field and 34.9% from deep ranking 23rd and seventh respectively.
On the negative side, Nikola Jokic (hamstring), Jamal Murray (hip), Bones Hyland (finger) and Vlatko Cancar (illness) are questionable for Sunday. Peyton Watson (groin), Jeff Green (hand fracture), and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.
