These teams have both been pleasant surprises this season. How is this stat, both have more than twice as many wins at Toronto.
Cleveland got themselves into the James Harden mix and they came out better for it with a young big man in Jarrett Allen.
New York is actually playing better due to internal improvement. When did that become a thing.
New York Knicks
The Knicks are not only playing better but they have gotten interesting too. Suddenly they are a good defensive team.
Mitchell Robinson and Nerlens Noel might not be offensive threats but they keep the pressure on inside.
Julius Randle has been sensational this season. He is leading the team in scoring, rebounding and assists and given the team is playing better those numbers are not fluff.
The success of Randle has helped RJ Barrett too. He does not have to force as much and Randle is willing to set him up. He has to shoot it better though.
This team is still hurting for some regular production from their starting backcourt. Elfrid Payton and Austng Rivers are not getting it done. Immanuel Quickly outscored them both off the bench in their last game.
They have been searching for a lead guard and maybe Quickly is the answer. The others have proven they can’t do it so why not give him a shot.
Obi Toppin is back from injury but played less than a minute in their last game. There might be something going on there.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Like New York is off to a much better start than expected. They were actually looking really good before they dropped five of their last six games.
The Cavs must really like Andre Drummond’s game. Not only is he leading the team at 18ppg with 15rpg but they just acquired Jarrett Allen in the Harder trade, a young player who mirrors his game perfectly. If they play at all together they will truly own backboards.
Darius Garland is out and Colin Sexton is questionable for this one. It is definitely no coincidence that the team has struggled without their starting backcourt. Any team wood but depth is tenuous for the Cavaliers.
Injuries are providing an opportunity for rookie Isaac Okoro to show he can be more than just a wing defender. So far he has not run with that opportunity.
