This Friday night match-up will see two of the worst teams in the league square off. The game will be a Western Conference showdown between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors.
This will be the third meeting between these two teams this season. The Warriors won the first game on the road and the Pelicans won the second game at home. Now the final two times these teams will meet will be played in Golden State. However, any home court advantage the Warriors may have had in previous seasons, has gone out the window this year.
New Orleans Pelicans
The Pelicans have yet to reach double-figures in the win column. They just snapped a 13-game losing streak by beating the Timberwolves on Wednesday, 107-99.
Their offense this season is actually putting up decent numbers. considering how bad their record is. New Orleans averages 112.2 points per game, which is a top 10 scoring offense in the league. Where they have had the most trouble is shooting the ball at a high percentage. They are 23rd in the league, shooting 44.7% from the field.
The good news is they are the number six ranked three-point shooting team at 36.4%. Still without Zion, the Pelicans have had to turn somewhere else for their offensive production. Brandon Ingram, (one of the players acquired in the deal with the Lakers) has been that guy for this struggling Pelicans team. He is averaging 25.3 points per game which leads the team.
Their second option has generally been Jrue Holiday, who averages 19.4 points per game. Other role players include, JJ Reddick, Josh Hart, and Lonzo Ball. All three of these guys average at least 10 points per game.

The Pelicans defense is where they tend to have their biggest issues. They are second to last in scoring defense, allowing 118.9 points per game. Teams are shooting 47.2% from the field and 37.2% from three-point range. Both of these rank in the bottom third of the NBA.
The best news for the Pelicans is they are going up a Warriors team that is worse than they are. The Warriors do not even really have a star player at this point because of all the injuries.
Golden State Warriors
What can I actually say about this Warriors team other than they are just terrible. They continue to lose games at a rapid pace and are currently riding a five-game losing streak. Their last loss came against the Portland Trailblazers, where they went down 122-112.
Offense is clearly a huge red flag for this Golden State team this year. In years past, they were one of the highest scoring teams in the league and now they average just 104.6 points per game and sit in 26th. A lot of this has to do with the injuries, but even still, they are just not making enough shots to stay competitive.
On that note, the Warriors have the third worst shooting team in the NBA. They average 43% from the field and 32.8% from the three-point line. Their lone bright spot is their free throw shooting. As a team, they hit 80.7% from the line and rank 3rd in the league.
As for scoring, D’Angelo Russell has emerged as the top guy. He is averaging 21.8 points per game. The next best is Eric Paschall at 15.9 points per game. The talent on this roster quickly drops off which is why they have been so poor.
The Golden State defense has also been very bad, allowing 114 points per game. This is the 21st ranked scoring defense in the NBA. Teams shoot 47.8% against them and a league worst 39.7% from the three-point line.
The Warriors are not showing any signs of being able to stop teams and I do believe they are going to have a ton of issues here as well.

Golden State has been a fade team all year and with only two wins at home, I cannot trust them here. That said, I will take the Pelicans to win their second game in a row in basically what is a pick ’em line.
