Friday, February 5th the Minnesota Timberwolves and Oklahoma City Thunder meet for the first time this season.
The Thunder holds the all-time record between the squads with 85 victories in 121 meetings. Last season these clubs played three times with Oklahoma City winning all three contests.
Minnesota Timberwolves
While the Wolves are struggling to produce wins there are small positives to take from the losses. For example, in their last two games, they competed right to the buzzer and lost by a single basket.
Specifically, those matches were the 98-100 loss to the Cavaliers and 108-111 to the Spurs.
In the loss to the Spurs, Malik Beasley led the way with 29 points and six rebounds. D’Angelo Russell scored 20 points and added five assists.
Rookie Anthony Edwards registered 14 points, six rebounds and two assists. Jake Layman (11) and Jaylen Nowell (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Naz Reid (11) and Jarred Vanderbilt (11) each contributed double-figure rebounds.
Karl-Anthony Towns is out dealing with health and safety protocols and projected to return on February 6th which would mean he may be available to play in the second match versus the Thunder.
Russell (quad) and Reid (wrist) will be game-time decisions. Jarrett Culver (ankle) is out until January 10th.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The Rockets routed the Thunder 136-106 in the first of two games in Oklahoma. Entering the second game things didn’t look good for the Thunder who were missing their starting backcourt to injury and lost Luguentz Dort shortly after the game started.
Yet, this scrappy young squad who everyone assumed would be headed straight for the bottom of the ladder en route to a tanking season simply doesn’t comply with the perceived notions.
Despite being shorthanded the Thunder rallied with a patchwork crew of starters and seldom-used bench players. They scored 104 points and held the Rockets to a season-low 87 points.
Among the lesser-known talents, Kenrich Williams is carving out a niche for himself and will either become a great reserve player on the future Thunder squad or he could draw interest on the trade market with his two-way ability.
He stepped up to offer 19 points, six rebounds, and two assists while hitting all three of his 3-point shots. Darius Bazley took over in the absence of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander producing a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.
Hamidou Diallo got a rare start and made the most of it with 16 points and nine rebounds while Al Horford (17), and Isaiah Roby (13) were the other double-figure contributors.
Gilgeous-Alexander (knee), George Hill (thumb) and Dort (knee) are all out. The hope is SGA and Dort will be back for the second game versus Minny.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Prediction:
With both teams mired by injury, the most intriguing aspect of this match might be the rookies as Theo Maledon who felt snubbed at 34 might be inspired to deliver a big game versus Anthony Edwards.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Wolves ATS
This is a battle of two teams but the question is what’s more important? Winning to move up the ladder and potentially make the play-in tournament or losing and getting closer to that top draft pick? I have a feeling the teams will split the two games with the Wolves taking the first match.
The opening line made the Thunder the favorites but it shifted from 1.5 for OKC to 2.5 for the Wolves.
