Wolves vs. Nuggets Gameday
Game 5 of the 2026 NBA Playoffs between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Denver Nuggets is on tap as the closing match of the night. The Wolves, who lead the series 3-1, will look for the gentleman’s sweep.
Game 4 went to the Wolves via an 112-96 victory in what was a fairly easy win for Minnesota, but very costly.
Only three Nuggets scored in double digits, led by Jamal Murray with 30 points on 10 of 25 shooting, while Nikola Jokic flirted with a triple-double, registering 24 points, 15 rebounds, and nine assists.
Four Wolves scored in double figures, led by Ayo Dosunmu, who delivered a career-best 43 points on a highly efficient 13 of 17. Donte DiVincenzo was lost to a torn Achilles tendon, while Anthony Edwards also exited the game after hyperextending his knee.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets Odds & Last 5
The teams played four times this season, with the Nuggtes winning three of the four meetings.
The clubs have a playoff history, having faced each other three times in prior seasons, with the Wolves winning two of those series.
It’s also the third time in the last three seasons the clubs have met, with the most recent series occurring two seasons ago when the Wolves overcame a double-digit deficit in Game 7 in Denver to dispense of the Nuggets.
Coming into the playoffs, the Wolves dealt with copious injuries to their core, specifically missing Anthony Edwards and Jaden McDaniels. Minny went 3-2 in the final five games and was middling, going 5-5 through the last 10 matches.
In contrast, the Nuggets were on fire to close the season on a 12-game winning streak, including victories versus six playoff seeds and two current play-in teams.
Denver is favored by 10.5 points with an over/under of 223.5 points.
Wolves Stats
Minnesota ranks 13th offensively (115.6), eighth defensively (112.5), and 10th in net rating (+3.1), running a pace of 101.50, which also ranks 10th overall.
The West’s sixth-place Wolves average 26.1 assists (16th) and 44.1 rebounds (tied for 12th). Minny scores 118.0 points per game while their opponents average 114.6 points.
The Wolves team leaders* are Anthony Edwards for scoring (28.8 points) and steals (1.4), Rudy Gobert for rebounding (11.5) and blocks (1.6), and Julius Randle for assists (5.0).
As for the perimeter, it’s a strength for the Wolves, who average 37.0% from deep with eight players shooting above the league average.

Minnesota Timberwolves vs. Denver Nuggets bottom line:
What was anticipated to be the most competitive of the eight playoff series has failed to live up to expectations as the Wolves exposed all the Nuggets’ deficiencies.
In a rarity, Nikola Jokic has been made to look human by the way Rudy Gobert is clamping down on him. Part of the issue is that Aaron Gordon is playing injured, and without his presence, Joker doesn’t have someone other than Jamal Murray (who is also struggling) to rely on for an easy pass leading to an easy bucket.
Certainly, missing Peyton Watson and Gordon playing on one leg isn’t helping, but the Nuggets need to take advantage of a weary Wolves squad that just lost their starting backcourt.

Wolves Nuggets Free Pick: Wolves +10.5
Here is my Wolves Nuggets free pick.
As expected, Gobert and McDaniels drew the assignments on Jokic and Murray, respectively, with other Wolves trying to offer help with defense. Since Game 2, they have had the upper hand and are starting to get in their opponents’ heads, as witnessed at the end of the game when Jokic took exception to McDaniels laying in the ball at the buzzer.
It feels more like pettiness, and perhaps it had more to do with McDaniels’ declaration that the Nuggets suck defensively. I mean — he’s got a point after how they’ve played through four games.
Now the Wolves can wrap up the series, but will have to do it without their starting backcourt. Denver needs to recognize this is a gift to them, and since they’ve won in this scenario before (in the bubble – twice), they can do it again.
Minnesota ranks 29th in free throw percentage while the Nuggets rank fifth with the second most made shots. In a series where a few points could decide every game that’s a considerable advantage.
Everything is on the line for the Nuggets, who have to decide if they have the mettle to fight back in this series. Without Aaron Gordon playing at full capacity, they need to step up as a group, while Jokic and Murray will need to be otherworldly.
It sort of feels like the Nuggets got that lucky break and will make this a series, but I expect the Wolves to play with an edge. So, while I think the Nuggets win this game, I like the Wolves to keep it closer than 10.5 points. Therefore, take the points.
