On Thursday, December 15th, the Milwaukee Bucks and Memphis Grizzlies for the first of two scheduled meetings. Milwaukee will host the second contest on April 7th.
The Bucks last played Tuesday easily dispensing of the Warriors 128-111 while the Grizzlies played Monday, pounding the Hawks 128-103.
Last season the clubs played twice with the teams splitting the two contests. The Grizzlies hold the all-time record with 26 wins in 51 matches versus the 76ers.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks opened Tuesday smashing the Warriors in the mouth then sat back and watched the Celtics cough up a big lead, get back in the game and need overtime to beat the Lakers.
The result at the end of the night was Boston still sat atop the league with the best record, but the Bucks have quietly crept up on them and sit only one game back.
And, this is with Khris Middleton just recently returning to the floor. Granted, Boston still needs to get back Robert Williams III and Al Horford has missed time, but there’s an argument Giannis Antetokounmpo and his Bucks are the more versatile group.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.1 points, 11.3 rebounds (2.1 offensive boards), 5.3 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
He’s shooting 53.0 percent from the field on 21.4 attempts, 25.7 percent from the perimeter on 3.2 attempts, and 62.8 percent from the stripe on 12 attempts.
Opponents score the second-fewest points versus the Bucks with 107.6 and are limited to the lowest (44.5%) field goal percentage and rank ninth for opponent perimeter percentage of 34.5%.
Offensively, the Bucks score 112.6 points per game (16th), while shooting 45.9% from the field (23rd) and 35.2% from the perimeter (17th).
Jrue Holiday (illness) is questionable for Thursday. Joe Ingles (knee) is out indefinitely.
Memphis Grizzlies
With their victory versus the Hawks on Monday combined with the Pelicans dropping a game to the Jazz it propelled the Grizzlies into a tie for first in the West.
Despite Desmond Bane being out the Grizzlies have continued to win but I still think the Nuggets will be seated atop the West within the next week or two given they have the easiest schedule (and best health) of the top three or four teams.
Still, the Grizzlies are no joke. They have an ideal one-two punch of young superstars with box office Ja Morant and the defensive brilliance of Jaren Jackson Jr (and his ability to stretch the floor).
Plus the perfect support staff of Bane who shoots lights out and made massive strides in the lab this offseason to improve his ball handling. Dillon Brooks takes every game and individual defensive assignment personally.
Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke provide versatility up front while Ziaire Williams, Santi Aldama, John Konchar, Tyus Jones, and even rookie David Roddy fit seamlessly into the new dynamic that has become this no-quit, no excuses Grizzlies squad.
Morant averages 27.7 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.8 assists, and 1.2 steals while attempting 21 field goals per game, 5.0 perimeter shots, and 9.0 free throws shooting 45.8%, 35.5%, and 74.2% respectively.
Offensively, the Grizzlies score 115.5 points per game ranking seventh overall. Memphis shoots 46.8% from the field ranking 18th, and 36.0% from the perimeter ranking 14th.
Defensively, Memphis allow their opponents to score 111.7 points per game (12th). Opponents shoot 45.1% from the field (3rd) and 35.9% from deep (17th).
Ja Morant (thigh), Steven Adams (ankle), and Jake LaRavia (foot) are questionable. Desmond Bane (toe), and Danny Green (knee) are out.

Memphis is riding a six-game win streak while the Bucks are 8-2 in their last 10. This should be a great match and I’ll take the hometown team to get the win and cover.
