Friday, November 18th, finds the Miami Heat and Washington Wizards playing the first of four scheduled meetings. The teams will play a baseball set in Miami on November 23rd and 25th while the Wizards will host the final meeting on April 7th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Heat 104-112 to the Raptors while the Wizards lost 120-121 to the Thunder.
All-time the Heat have the advantage of winning 92 of 136 matches versus the Wizards. Last season the teams played on four occasions with Miami taking three of the four contests.
Miami Heat
Kyle Lowry returned to Toronto with his former fan base still very much adoring of him and had one of his better outings of the season with 19 points, a rebound, two assists, a steal, and a block.
It was his second-highest point tally of the season but the stat line doesn’t give a true depiction of just how impactful he was in the game.
While all five starters (and Gabe Vincent) scored in double-figures, Lowry was the only Heat player to register a positive in the plus/minus column.
Jimmy Butler tied some season lows with the fewest field goal attempts (eight) and points (13) points as Nick Nurse clearly made him their primary option to defend.
The Heat lost the rebound battle 42 to 23 including 16 to 4 offensive rebounds and coughed up 23 turnovers leading to 29 Raptors points.
Offensively, the Heat score 110.3 points per game (20th rank) and shoot 46.0% from the field (22nd) and 35.2% from the perimeter (18th).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 110.1 points per game (tied 9th with Wizards). Miami opponents shoot 47.9 percent from the field (tied 25th) and 36.9% from the perimeter (22nd).
Bam Adebayo (knee) and Udonis Haslem (personal) are questionable for Friday. Tyler Herro (ankle), Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are out indefinitely.
Washington Wizards
So Bradley Beal returned to the court and sure enough as I predicted – the Wizards’ defensive prowess that led to their four-game win streak disappeared and they lost.
Granted, the Thunder has been feasting offensively, but this team looks completely different schematically with Beal back on the court.
Offensively, the Wizards score 108.9 points per game which rank 25th overall. Washington shoots 47.3% from the field and 35.2% from the perimeter ranking 10th and 17th respectively.
Defensively, the Wizards allow opponents to score 110.1 per game (tied 9th with Heat).
In terms of opponent efficiency, Washington is on opposite ends of the spectrum as they shoot 45.6 percent from the field (7th) versus the perimeter (27th) where opponents shoot 38.5%.
Delon Wright (hamstring) is out indefinitely.

Free Miami Heat vs. Washington Wizards NBA Prediction:
It’s felt very much like the Heat win when Adebayo takes a bigger role in the offense and/or when Butler just takes over.
Although the Wizards boasted an improved defense during the four-game win streak it was a bit of fool’s gold (B2B sets/player rest) and I’m simply more confident in the Heat playing to their identity plus Butler won’t go consecutive games not impacting the bottom line.
