Saturday, December 17th, the Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs play the second and final scheduled meetings this season. San Antonio won their initial meeting 115-111 on December 10th.
The Heat swept their back-to-back set defeating the Thunder (110-108) and Rockets (111-108) on Wednesday/Thursday while the Spurs played Wednesday losing 112-128 to the Blazers.
Last season, the squads met twice with Miami sweeping the set and on a current four-game win streak versus the Spurs. The Spurs hold the all-time record having bested the Heat in 44 of their 69 matches.

Although the Heat isn’t blowing teams away they are doing what’s necessary which is winning on the road in close matches. They’re on a three-game win streak and have won four of their last five.
They’ve climbed up to the eighth seed and are just 2.5 games back of fourth and a home-court seed. Granted the last two games were mired by controversy as the officials refused to make a call in OKC and refused to review an out-of-bounds play.
Miami won those games by two and three points so the no-calls earned them the victory — hence it’s a bad look for the league because it comes across as the officials are ensuring Miami victories.
Despite the offensive struggles, three Heat players are scoring 20 or more points. That trio is Jimmy Butler (21.7), Bam Adebayo (20.6), and Tyler Herro (20.2).
Offensively, the Heat score 108.0 points per game (29th rank) shooting 45.0% from the field (27th) and 34.2% from the perimeter (21st).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 109.2 points per game ranking fifth. Miami opponents shoot 47.2% from the field and 35.4% from the perimeter both ranking 17th.
The Heat served up a lengthy injury report with 15 players noted (seven were probable, so I excluded naming them).
Kyle Lowry (knee), Caleb Martin (ankle), Adebayo (ankle), Dewayne Dedmon (foot), Haywood Highsmith (quad), and Udonis Haslem (Achilles) are questionable while Gabe Vincent (knee) and Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) are out.
San Antonio Spurs
For the tanking teams the goal is to finish as one of the bottom three seeds. The Hornets and Pistons hold the bottom two spots but with the Rockets and Magic suddenly winning they’ve moved up into a three-way tie with the Spurs for that final slot.
On offense, the Spurs average 110.2 points per game ranking 27th overall. San Antonio shoots 46.3 percent from the field and 34.0 percent from the perimeter ranking 19th and 23rd respectively.
The Spurs rank 30th in all three defensive categories allowing 120.4 opponent points per game 50.7% field goal percentage and 39.4% perimeter percentage.
Zach Collins (ankle) and Jakob Poeltl (knee) are probable, Romeo Langford (ankle) is questionable and Josh Richardson (personal) is out.
