On Wednesday, December 23rd marks the battle of Florida with the Miami Heat facing the Orlando Magic in both club’s first game of the 2020-21 season.
Last season, the Southeast Division squads played four times with the Heat winning three of four matches. The Heat holds the all-time advantage winning 68 of the 123 meetings.
Miami Heat
Having reached the NBA Finals this past season the Heat will be dialed into replicating their efforts but with goals of hoisting the Larry O’Brien trophy this time.
Pat Riley locked in Bam Adebayo via his rookie extension contract. Jae Crowder and Derrick Jones Jr. are gone but replaced by Avery Bradley and Maurice Harkless.
This offseason was supposed to be about creating space to go after Giannis Antetokounmpo in 2021 free agency but with the MVP signing his super-max extension the crafty executive will need to find another target.
Miami has a perfect blend on their roster starting with the proven leadership of star Jimmy Butler and rising star Bam Adebayo. A trio of youthful rising stars features the baby-faced snarling Tyler Herro, sophomore Kendrick Nunn, and 3-point sniper Duncan Robinson.
Add in the veteran depth and brilliant mind of Erik Spoelstra who is arguably the best coach in the NBA and you’ve got a club who could be headed back to the finals if all things fall right.
Orlando Magic
For the past two seasons, the Magic grabbed a playoff seed but lost in the first round in back-to-back years via gentlemen’s sweeps to the Raptors and Bucks respectively.
Orlando hopes to take a step this season but will face adversity in doing so as star Jonathan Isaac will be out for the season having suffered an ACL injury in the Disney bubble.
Moreover, the Eastern Conference is much more diverse as a slew of Western stars joined Eastern clubs. Additionally, teams like the Wizards and Hawks who weren’t playoff squad have bolstered their rosters via free agency and trades.
In spite of the challengers, the front office didn’t make many roster tweaks. Orlando added Cole Anthony and Chuma Okeke in the draft and Dwayne Bacon via free agency.
Although DJ Augustin might not seem like a major loss his exit to the Bucks does indicate the Magic are expecting much more from Markelle Fultz this season.
James Ennis (calf) won’t play Wednesday while Mo Bamba (COVID-19 recovery) and Al-Farouq Aminu (knee) are both out indefinitely and Jonathan Isaac is out for the season.

Free Miami Heat vs. Orlando Magic NBA Prediction:
The battle of Florida always offers extra excitement but without the ability to fill arenas with fans the Magic and Heat will have to motivate themselves.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Heat cover the spread
While the Magic have a tendency to get out to strong season starts, the Heat will be equally inspired to send the league a message of their intentions for this campaign.
And while both clubs can defend the Magic simply don’t have the offensive depth to keep up with the Heat.
