Monday, January 3rd, finds the Miami Heat playing the Golden State Warriors for the first time this season and will complete their regular-season series in Golden State on March 23rd.
The Warriors played Saturday defeating the Jazz 123-117 while the Heat arrive to complete a back-to-back set having played and lost 113-115 to the Kings on Sunday.
Last season, the teams played twice with the teams each winning on their home court. The Warriors have won 33 of the 65 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Miami Heat
Only the Cavaliers and Nuggets have beat Miami twice which might point to an issue with quality bigs. But since Miami took both games against the Jazz (Rudy Gobert) as beat Philly with Joel Embiid in the lineup it’s more likely the issue is overall team length.
Athletic, speedy opponents can also cause problems for the Heat particularly now that they are so shorthanded. The loss to the Kings had more to do with not imposing their defensive prowess for the full 48 minutes and being so shorthanded.
Kyle Lowry (14 points, 12 assists) and Omer Yurtseven (22 points, 16 rebounds) each posted double-doubles while Tyler Herro (22), Jimmy Butler (21) and Caleb Martin (15) all score in double figures.
Miami ranks eighth on offense (111.2), sixth on defense (107.0), and has a positive +4.2 net differential which also ranks sixth.
KZ Okpala (wrist) is questionable for Monday as are all the players currently in protocol stages including PJ Tucker, Udonis Haslem, Duncan Robinson, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, and Marcus Garrett.
Dewayne Dedmon (knee), Markieff Morris (neck), and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely. Bam Adebayo (thumb) will be out for up to six weeks.
Golden State Warriors
Once again the Warriors beat an elite team and showcased why so many believe they should be title favorites as they beat the Jazz at their own game winning the perimeter and playing better defensively.
Stephen Curry led the way with 28 points, nine assists, and six rebounds. Andrew Wiggins offered 25 points, four assists, and two steals and Otto Porter Jr. scored 20 in a starting role.
Veteran Andre Iguodala was big in the match scoring 12 points adding seven rebounds, eight assists and made 2 of 3 perimeter shots including the 3-pointer that cemented the victory.
Speaking of 3-pointers, the Warriors were hot from outside connecting on 17 of their 32 long balls or 53.2 percent with all six players who attempted a perimeter shot connecting at least once.
Golden State ranks fourth on offense (112.0), first on defense (102.1), and has a positive +10.0 net differential which also ranks first.
Damion Lee (quarantine) is the only player still in protocols and is questionable for Monday. Klay Thompson (Achilles) and James Wiseman (knee) remain out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Warriors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Miami Heat vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
Although the Heat is fourth in the East they have a similarity to the Warriors in that both clubs have fared very well against the top seeds. Of the other seven teams who currently hold a home court seed, the Heat possess an 8-2 record against them while the Warriors are 6-2 versus the other top seven.
This should be a battle and both teams are missing key cogs but the Warriors are healthier overall. While I do believe the Warriors get the win I also think the shorthanded Heat keep it closer than 8.5 points.
