Friday, December 30th, finds the Miami Heat playing the Denver Nuggets in the first of two scheduled meetings. Miami will host the second contest on February 13th.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Heat dispensing of the Lakers 112-98 while the Nuggets completed a baseball back-to-back set versus the Kings splitting the series as Sacramento pulled off the one-point 127-126 victory.
Last season the clubs played twice with the Nuggets winning both contests. The Heat holds the all-time record with 36 wins in 70 matches.
*Editor’s Note: Statistics and rankings are current as of this writing, Thursday evening, December 29th. Numbers may vary slightly entering games on Friday, December 30th.
Miami Heat
Don’t look now but while all these superstars have been putting up career performances and setting historically new records, the Heat who were seemingly too old to win have done precisely that.
They are 6-2 in their last eight matches and before anyone jumps in to say but who did they play — remember you can only play the teams on your schedule.
They’ve climbed back up to sixth although they possess an identical record to the Pacers and Knicks.
Offensively, the Heat score 108.2 points per game (30th rank) shooting 45.2% from the field (26th) and 34.0% from the perimeter (24th).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 108.9 points per game ranking fourth. Miami opponents shoot 47.5% from the field and 36.2% from the perimeter ranking 21st and 20th respectively.
Kyle Lowry (personal) and Dewayne Dedmon (plantar fasciitis) are questionable. Omer Yurtseven (ankle surgery) is out.
Denver Nuggets
The Nuggets were missing Aaron Gordon, Jamal Murray, and Bruce Brown in the second game of the back-to-back in Sacramento, and while they took a 16-point lead into the first quarter (40-24) they weren’t able to hold the Kings off.
Nikola Jokic (40 points, seven rebounds, six assists) did his best to help his team extend the win streak but ultimately they fell by a single point.
It appeared like he got fouled grabbing a rebound that Sabonis stole away from him in the closing minutes but when a guy is playing with essentially a broken thumb and scraping like that – it’s not like Jokic is going to complain.
Denver ranks sixth in scoring averaging 116.2 points per game, and second in both proficiency from the field: 50.6% and the perimeter 38.8%.
The Nuggets rank 17th for opponent scoring allowing 114.2 points per game, while foes shoot 48.7% from the field and 36.4% from the perimeter ranking 27th and 22nd overall.
Jamal Murray (knee) is probable while Aaron Gordon (shoulder) and Bruce Brown (ankle) are questionable for Friday. Jeff Green (left finger sprain/hand fracture) and Collin Gillespie (leg fracture) are out.

Free Miami Heat vs. Denver Nuggets NBA Prediction:
The last time these teams played in Denver there was a bit of a brouhaha that ended up keeping Markieff Morris off the court for a substantial period of time, albeit he was the instigator.
Morris is no longer on the Heat so presumably, all will be copacetic this time around.
The Nuggets are not the easy fodder the Heat have been playing but by the same token Denver hasn’t learned how to deliver the kill punch once they get a team down so I’ll take the points but the Nuggets to win.
