The NBA ushers in New Year Day with a full slate of games including the Dallas Mavericks playing host to the Miami Heat.
The Heat hold the all-time record between the clubs with 36 wins in 67 meetings. Last season, the teams only played twice due to the pandemic with the Heat winning both contests.
Miami Heat
Through four games the Heat are playing .500 ball and navigating the shifts of integrating new players as well as the absence of their leader Jimmy Butler who left the second game of the year due to an ankle injury.
Miami played the Bucks in back-to-back games losing the first in embarrassing fashion to a score of 144-97 with an NBA record 29 triples.

Jimmy Butler missed the last two games dealing with ankle stiffness and remains a question mark for this match.
Dallas Mavericks
After starting the season on the road for three games the Mavericks returned to Dallas for their home opener. But, the warm confines of American Airlines Arena didn’t bring good fortune as Dallas was routed by Charlotte 118-99.
One game after embarrassing the Clippers by building a 50 point lead by the half and winning by a 51 point margin Dallas looked like a different team.
Mavericks head coach, Rick Carlisle credited the Hornets game plan to start aggressive and be physical to throw off the Mavericks rhythm.
It worked especially against superstar Luka Doncic who Carlisle stated is still seeking to find his rhythm. With the Hornets leading 98-69 at the end of the third quarter Doncic sat the final frame. Prior to sitting, he scored 12 points, five assists, and two rebounds.
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 18 points, Jalen Brunson chipped in 16 points, and Maxi Kleber scored 12 as the only other double-figure contributors.
Kristaps Porzingis is the only Mavericks player on the injured list and is slowly working his way back with the goal to have him back on the hardwood by the middle of January.
