Monday, January 25th finds the Miami Heat playing the Brooklyn Nets for the second time in three days. In the initial meeting the Nets held off an undermanned Heat team to capture the 128-124 victory.
The Heat holds the all-time record between the clubs with 74 wins in 127 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with the Heat taking two out of three contests.
Miami Heat
Considering the personnel the Heat were missing in the match versus Brooklyn’s big 3 it was impressive they were in the game let alone battled back to make it a game. Especially once the Nets built an 18-point lead.
The most significant players missing were Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, and Avery Bradley but Bam Adebayo did his best to shoulder the burden.
Adebayo registered 41 points on a highly efficient 14 of 20 from the field. The big man also filled up the stat sheet with five rebounds, nine assists, and a steal.
Goran Dragic scored 19 while Duncan Robinson and Kendrick Nunn each chipped in 18 points as the other double-digit contributors.
The list of walking wounded is lengthy – – Tyler Herro (neck) and Chris Silva (hip) missed four and two games respectively. Mo Harkless left the last game for an undisclosed reason. This trio is listed as questionable for Monday.
Butler and Bradley are still out dealing with the health and safety protocols while Meyers Leonard is dealing with a shoulder injury and all three are listed as out indefinitely.
Brooklyn Nets
Since the James Harden trade fans have witnessed both sides of the equation. On the positive side is the offense which already looks like it will become one of the best in NBA history.
Conversely, this Nets crew won’t be confused for a top defensive squad and got substantially weaker via the trade.
The presence of Harden makes it easier for Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving to have single coverage but it was Joe Harris who gave Miami fits from the tip. He finished with 23 points including seven 3-pointers.
As Brooklyn’s Big 3 figure out how they’ll mesh on Saturday, Harden (the scoring champion of the past three seasons) compensated taking only eight shots!
It gives credence to the argument players need touches to be effective as he scored just 12 points with eight coming on free throws but added seven rebounds and 11 assists.
Durant led the scoring with 31, Irving got hot late scoring 28 and Jeff Green added 11 points.
Spencer Dinwiddie is lost for the season after tearing his ACL while Nicolas Claxton (knee) remains out with no timetable for a return.

Not to harp on the defense but consider the fact a Heat squad missing at least three core players were able to score 124 versus the Nets when the game prior they scored a mere 81 versus the Raptor.
