Miami Heat
The Heat has won two in a row to get within a game of .500 ahead of its game against Brooklyn.
Bam Adebayo, who just returned to the lineup three games ago, posted a double-double in each of Miami’s last two victories.
Tyler Herro and Jimmy Butler remain out but both are reportedly getting close to returning. Consider both questionable early in the look-ahead to this one.
Meanwhile, Duncan Robinson, Goran Dragic, Kendrick Nunn and even Kelly Olynyk continue to get big minutes as the Heat try to stay within striking distance in the East.
And as tumultuous as the start to the season has been, Miami is right there, just outside of the playoffs, if the season were to end today. The last team in is .500, ahead of Friday’s games.
So the Heat will be content to play the long game, as long as it gets a chance to defend its Eastern Conference title.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets are going to get another shot at the Cavaliers on Friday night before traveling back home to play the Heat on Saturday.
Of course, Kevin Durant, James Harden and Kyrie Irving are all back and in the lineup. Who knows if they will all play in the back-to-back. It may not be a bad idea to rest one in each one of these spots.
Problem is, the Nets are lacking bodies to do something like that. They have to find some serviceable roster players to fill gaps.
Brooklyn’s lack of depth is even scarier when you consider Jeff Green and DeAndre Jordan have missed one game between the two of them.
A guy like Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot needs to prove his worth as a role player. A first round pick in 2016, he’s bounced around but he’s doing a little bit of everything for the Nets so far this season.
The demands on the role guys aren’t big so energy is the key. The son on a Congolese father and French mother could stay in the mix all year.

Free Miami Heat vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction: Miami gets inside the number.
Brooklyn on the back-to-back feels like a wild card.
Miami is trending up and may even get another player or two back for this one, though it’s anything but certain.
I’ll take the Heat and the points.
