The Miami Heat will be traveling to Georgia to take on the Atlanta Hawks in a game with playoff complications on Friday, April 23rd. The Heat currently sit at 7th in the East just one game behind Atlanta and the Hawks hold on to the 5th spot in the conference.
Miami is coming off a 20-point victory over Spurs on Wednesday, while Atlanta suffered a 137-127 defeat to the Knicks in overtime at the Garden.
These two teams have split the two games they have played so far this season with Miami coming out on top in the first matchup and the Hawks getting revenge in the second game. Let’s see who will be the victor of the rubber match on Friday to decide the season series.
Miami Heat
COVID and injuries have really foiled what the Heat wanted to accomplish in 2021. After a magnificent run to the Finals in the bubble, Miami hasn’t really lived up to their potential they showed down in Florida. Tyler Herro has fallen into a sophomore slump and struggles to find his shot at times and the loss of Jae Crowder in free agency has loomed larger than expected.
The front office did make a last-ditch effort at the trade deadline by getting former all-star Victor Oladipo, but has already found himself back on the injured list and who knows if he is going to be able to contribute at the same level.
Jimmy Butler leads the Heat in scoring at 21.4 points per game. As a team the Heat average 106.47 points per game which is ranked 27th in the league, but to be fair to them they play at one of the slower paces.
On defense is where Miami thrives. They hold opponents to 107.02 points per game which is the third-best mark in the league. Opposing teams are shooting just 44.95% from the floor and 36.10% from beyond the arc when facing the Heat.
Atlanta Hawks
The Hawks have been on fire since acquiring PG Lou Williams from the Clippers at the trade deadline. Since acquiring the veteran sharp-shooter Atlanta has gone 9-2 over an 11-game span. One of those losses even came with Trae Young out of the lineup.
Be on the lookout to see if Trae Young is going to play in this game. The 22-year old all-star tweaked his ankle in the fourth quarter against the Knicks on Wednesday and did not return to the game. He is currently questionable on the Hawks injury report and I would imagine Atlanta is going to be cautious with their best player. Trae contributes a team-high 25.3 points per game and team-high 9.6 assists per game. He has +/- of +4.44 when on the court compared to when he is not playing, so it goes to show just how valuable he is to this team.
As a team, the Hawks average 113.68 points per game which is good for 11th in the NBA. They shoot a combined 46.39% from the floor and 37.20% from the three-point range.
Defensively, Atlanta is mediocre at best. They give up an average of 111.59 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 46.20% from the field and 34.76 from beyond the arc.

Free Miami Heat vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
I lean with the Miami Heat in this game. The Hawks are coming off an overtime loss against the Knicks where Trae Young was injured late in the game. I would imagine they are going to be careful with their young all-star and there is no reason for him to injure himself more. Regardless if Trae plays or not he is not going to be at 100%, so that should favor the Heat’s chances of winning.
The Heat are currently on the cusp of the play-in tournament with them clinging onto the seventh seed in the East by two games over the Hornets. I think Miami will come out motivated and if they win this one they will be tied for the fifth in the standings.
Athletically no one in the frontcourt for Atlanta is going to defend Bam Adebayo well. Clint Capella is not going to be able to keep up with the quick post moves that Bam possesses in his bag.
Give me the Heat to beat a short handed Hawks team with the anticipatiction that Trae Young is going to be out.
