Memphis Grizzlies
The Rockets out-shot the Grizzlies in Memphis on Thursday and handed the home team its second consecutive loss, 115–106.
Desmond Bane led the Griz with 16 off the bench. He made two-of-four from three-point range to again actually bring his season percentage down, though just barely.
Ja Morant had 15 on just 6-of-15 from the field and four assists. Kyle Anderson had an even worse shooting night and finished 0-for-7.
Tyus Jones was a bright spot, as he often is, off the bench. He dished out another eight assists without turning the ball over to improve his assist-to-turnover ratio to nearly 7:1.
Both Grayson Allen and Jonas Valanciunas remained in health and safety protocol for a fourth consecutive game. At this point, there’s no good reason to believe either will be available by Saturday.
Jaren Jackson Jr. still hasn’t returned, despite earlier reports that he would be ready soon. A new report has come out that states he won’t be back until at least sometime next month.
New Orleans Pelicans
New Orleans snapped a two-game losing streak on Wednesday with a blowout win over the Suns.
The Pels were not out-matched in the outside shooting department. Phoenix shot just 8-of-35, while New Orleans made 14 of its 33 attempts.
The return of JJ Redick helped. He made half of his four threes. Lonzo Ball and Eric Bledsoe combined to to go 7-of-13, which happens sometimes just not often. It’s a big reason why New Orleans is not consistent.
Zion Williamson made his only long ball and finished 12-of-14 from the field overall for a game-high 28 points. He also had seven rebounds, six assists and no turnovers in perhaps his best game of his career. His previous assist high without a turnover was three.
Of course, everything will be so much easier on Williamson if his teammates are knocking down the outside shot. The Pelicans must surround him with shooters.
This team, with Ball, Bledsoe and Steven Adams, is simply constructed opposite to that. The Pelicans will continue to play uneven.

Free Memphis Grizzlies vs New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction: the Pels.
Memphis is the better team but its outside shooting isn’t great, either. The lesson I took from the Phoenix game is not to give the opponent a large edge, or an edge at all, over the Pelicans if the outside shooting is just a gamble.
So give the nod to the Pelicans at home. I’m not laying more than a point, if that’s what the oddsmakers decide, but I will predict a straight-up victory in what’s just about a coin flip.
