Saturday, January 14th, the Memphis Grizzlies and Indiana Pacers play the first of two scheduled meetings between the clubs. Memphis will host the second contest on January 29th.
Memphis has been off since Wednesday when they beat the Spurs 135-129 while the Pacers are completing a back-to-back set having lost 111-113 to the Hawks on Friday.
Last season, the teams played twice with Memphis winning both contests. The Pacers hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 32 of their 52 matches

Memphis Grizzlies
A peek at the recent match by the Grizzlies provides reasoning for why I tend to lean away from big point spreads. Although Memphis won and did so easily because the game was in hand Taylor Jenkins rested his core group to close out the match.
That allowed the Spurs to win the fourth quarter by 10 points and the result is a final score with a winning margin of just six points instead of double-digits.
Of course, it’s the right choice for Jenkins to make especially given the past injury history of his stars. But by the same token, it’s also why picking certain teams to cover large point spreads requires a belief their reserve unit can maintain the lead.
Stats
Offensively, the Grizzlies score 116.8 points per game ranking eighth overall. Memphis registers 47.0% shooting efficiency from the field ranking 16th, and 34.9% from the perimeter ranking 18th.
The Grizzlies possess the best opponent field goal percentage limiting clubs to 44.5%. They rank 11th in opponents scoring with 111.8 points and 12th for opponent perimeter percentage at 35.3%.
Dillon Brooks (ankle) and Brandon Clarke (hip) are questionable while John Konchar (illness) is out Saturday. Danny Green (knee) is out indefinitely.
Indiana Pacers
Despite being without three starters the Pacers pushed the Hawks to clutch time and almost forced overtime. It was an impressive effort by this group I’ve dubbed the Cinderella team of the season.
They’ve earned the moniker for overachieving yet, as a young squad they aren’t without bad habits such as poor starts.
Opponents get into a rhythm early and gain confidence while the Pacers are forced to fight to get back into the match. It was a double-edged sword on Friday as they suffered the loss, but used excess energy that could’ve been saved for this game.
Offense
The Pacers average 115.5 points per game ranking 10th while shooting 46.1% from the field and 36.6% from the perimeter which ranks 22nd and 11th respectively.
Defensively, Indy allows 115.6 points which rank 20th while these opponents shoot 46.5% from the field and 36.6% from the perimeter ranking ninth and 25th.
Aaron Nesmith (illness) is questionable. Tyrese Haliburton (elbow/knee sprains), Myles Turner (back), Kendall Brown (tibia fracture), and Daniel Theis (knee) are out.
