Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies defeated the Nets on Friday, 115–110.
Dillon Brooks led the way with 24 points and Brandon Clarke added 21. Memphis avoided both Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, who are both out for Brooklyn, and overcame 43 points from Caris LeVert.
It also lost Jonas Valanciunas in the middle of the game due to health and safety protocol. Apparently, Valanciunas has not tested positive for the coronavirus but he may be involved in contract tracing.
Head Coach Taylor Jenkins signaled it was an abundance of caution to pull Valanciunas and so it may be possible he’s available for this game.
Of course, Memphis is already without Ja Morant, who should stay out for at least another week or two, and Jaren Jackson Jr., who has yet to play this season with a knee injury.
Jenkins has installed the next man up mentality but the Grizzlies are playing with their heads below water at the moment, just stretched too thin.
Xavier Tillman is one guy who has taken advantage of the void in the front court.
The second round pick out of Michigan State who signed an NBA contract with Memphis has logged at least 17 minutes in the four games he has played this season (Memphis’ last four).
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers are even more beat up with their three best offensive players on the shelf at the moment.
Collin Sexton, Kevin Love and Darius Garland all missed the Cavs’ 10-point loss in Milwaukee. Love and Garland will both miss this game and Sexton’s status isn’t known.
He’s missed two in a row with an ankle injury, however, including Cleveland’s four-point victory over Memphis on Thursday.
Garland and Love missed that one too but Cleveland got 22 points from Andre Drummond, 18 from Larry Nance Jr. and 16 from Cedi Osman.
Isaac Okoro also played 39 minutes and had a big impact on both ends of the game, despite not registering noticeable statistics.
The rookie out of Auburn is a terrific defender but went 0-for-4 from the free throw line against Milwaukee in Cleveland’s last game.
