This game features the Lakers traveling to Cleveland to face the defending champions.
The Lakers come in on a 4 game losing streak, while Cleveland is on a 5 game winning streak.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers continue to struggle this season, and it seems like a possible 8th seed will be lost by the All Star break.

D’Angelo Russell has been in a bit of a shooting slump during this 4 game losing streak. He is shooting just under 30% from the field. The Lakers offense starts with Russell and if he continues the poor shooting the team should expect a 5th loss in a row.
Going up against Kyrie Irving should be a good test for him on the defensive end as well, but I see D’Angelo turning things around in this road game.
Second year big man Julius Randle has grabbed 8 or more rebounds in 6 straight games. He has become one of the more dynamic big men in the league, with his ability to run the fast break and pick up assists.
Tristan Thompson and Kevin Love will definitely make scoring the ball and defending a tough task, but I believe Randle can get a double double, and stop Love from having a big game by getting him into early foul trouble.

Guard Lou Williams has shown big scoring flashes during the Lakers losing streak, even putting up 35 points in one matchup. The Cavs can’t rely on JR Smith to defend Williams so expect Lebron to guard Williams and keep the Lakers scoring punch from getting anything going. Expect a poor shooting night from him.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Although Golden State, Houston, and OKC have gotten much of the attention for the first quarter of the season, Cleveland is still the team to beat in my eyes.
Lebron James has carefully conserved his playing time throughout the season, gearing up for another NBA Finals appearance. In the games where he doesn’t play due to rest Cleveland has stayed competitive, which should be a scary thought for the rest of the East.
After dropping 44, 9 assists and 10 rebounds on the Hornets last Saturday night, James followed that up with a 23 point, 8 assist, 6 rebound performance against the Grizzlies Tuesday. His high level of play still keeps him in the MVP discussion, and with a lack of defense on the wing I expect James to dominate the Lakers in limited minutes.
Kyrie Irving didn’t play against the Grizzlies Wednesday night, so he should be well rested for this matchup against Russell. Strong performances during his last 5 games show me that he will come up huge in this one, with a 30 point performance clearly his for the taking.
If he gets off to a hot start I don’t expect the Lakers to keep up with him.

Kevin Love had a huge double double against Gasol and Randolph Wednesday night. He had 29 points and 13 rebounds and couldn’t be stopped byt he normally stout Grizzlies front line.
His strong play should continue against Julius Randle and Roy Hibbert, but I don’t see it happening in this one. Early foul trouble defending Randle will keep Love from getting into a groove.
