On Monday, December 26th, the LA Clippers and Detroit Pistons play for the second and final time in this campaign. The teams played initially on November 17th with the Clippers winning 96-91.
Both teams last played on Friday with the Clippers coughing up a double-digit lead to lose 114-119 to the 76ers while the Pistons got pummeled 105-130 by the Hawks.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Clippers winning both contests. The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 72 of their 123 matches.

LA Clippers
With Kawhi Leonard and Paul George back, the Clippers entered Friday looking every bit like the team pundits suggested could win the West. They’d embarrassed the Celtics and won five of six.
So the loss in Philly was a bit perplexing given it was just their second game of the week and they were coming off five straight home matches. LA was up by 20 points but couldn’t hold on as the teams entered the fourth quarter tied but it was Philly who took the frame and the game.
Kawhi Leonard was highly efficient (12 of 19) offering 28 points, three rebounds, and five assists. The issue was he’s still on a minutes restriction (seemingly) as he logged 34 minutes and you have to wonder if he’d played just a minute or two more if the Clippers win instead.
His running mate Paul George had an unbalanced offering as he struggled from deep (3 of 10) and did the majority of his scoring in the first half scoring 17 of his 22 points.
Presently, they sit 30th for scoring averaging 107.8 points per game shooting 46.1% from the field and 36.9% from the perimeter ranking 21st and 10th respectively.
Defensively, the Clippers are elite ranking top five in all three major categories with opponents averaging 107.9 points per game which is the third lowest overall while ranking fourth in both field goal shooting at 45.3% and perimeter percentage at 33.9%.
John Wall (ankle) is questionable.
Detroit Pistons
The Pistons are the most obvious tanking team in the association. Even the Hornets are trying to win especially now that LaMelo Ball is back and the team is said to be moving toward re-signing Miles Bridges – although I’ll leave my personal bias on that situation for another day.
From a statistical perspective, there aren’t many highlights for the Pistons who struggle on both sides of the hardwood. They allow opponents to score an average of 118.3 points per game which ranks second worst at 29th.
Their opponent’s field goal percentage is 48.6% ranking 28th while their best defensive stat in the key categories is the opponent’s three-point percentage as foes shoot 35.5% from deep which ranks 13th overall.
Offensively, the Pistons score 110.6 points per game which rank 26th. From an efficiency perspective, the Pistons shoot the third worst of the 30 teams (28th) with 44.8% from the field and rank 23rd from the perimeter shooting 34.3%.
Isaiah Livers (shoulder) is out while Cade Cunningham (shin) had surgery and was shut down for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Clippers are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games.
- The Pistons are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The Clippers are 7-0 SU in their last 7 games against Detroit.
- The Pistons are 1-9 SU in their last 10 games at home.
Free LA Clippers vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Prediction:
They say two of the five hardest games each season is the matches before and after the Christmas break, especially for young squads. That bodes well for the Clippers who’ll be seeking to get back on track and in the win column. The eight-point spread is rich but I like LA to win and cover.
